Outdoor Education Coordinator Full Time - 1.0 FTE September 1 2026 - June 29 2027

Reporting to Junior School Director and Senior School Director this position works collaboratively with the schools faculty and administration. This contract is 1.0 FTE the successful applicant will work Monday-Friday commencing September 1 2026 concluding June 29 2027 .

The Outdoor Education Coordinator at Brockton School leads a dynamic curriculum-linked program that complements the academic experience for students from JK through Grade 12. Tasked with overseeing program design staffing and logistics the Coordinator develops age-appropriate learning experiences ranging from local day programs to backcountry adventures across Southwestern BCs varied landscapes. By focusing on environmental stewardship and leadership the role empowers students to practice authentic collaboration and safely explore lifelong outdoor pursuits unique to the North Shore and Lower Mainland.

Beyond administrative duties this position is deeply experiential requiring the direct teaching of outdoor skills to teach weekly classes and foster a culture of inclusivity and personal growth. The Coordinator is responsible for rigorous risk management and safety oversight of the Outdoor Education program while supporting students as they build confidence and achieve meaningful personal goals. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator dedicated to growing a program that balances adventure-based learning with a strong sense of community and teamwork.

Requirements:

• BC Teaching Certificate: Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching Certificate
• IB experience or training (preferred)
• Three to five years of professional work experience in the field of outdoor education
• Experienced and knowledgeable about local landscapes (has travelled/out-tripped in local spaces)
• Wilderness First Responder (80 hour) or Wilderness First Aid (40 hour) and CPR certifications
• Additional guiding certifications are an asset: AST SKGABC Paddle Canada etc.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• High EQ skills possess the ability to be self-aware
• Strong problem-solving organizational and administrative skills
• The ability to work independently and as a collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills

• Experience in teaching (or demonstrated ability to safely teach) Outdoor Education
• Experience in safely introducing to a variety of healthy and lifelong outdoor pursuits unique to the North Shore Lower Mainland and Southwestern BC
• Willingness to collaborate with colleagues to build Unit plans
• Class 4 Drivers License an asset

• Identify learning outcomes as they relate to OE delivery to Grades 17 by designing adapting and teaching age-appropriate lessons and activities that integrate outdoor experiences with core curriculum areas
• Incorporate student reflection tools (e.g. journals discussions self-assessment) to deepen learning and track growth
• Plan implement and participate on OE trips
• Comprehensively overseeing risk management and safety in the Outdoor Education program
• Activity and trip planning as well as administrative functions as needed including budget tracking and communications related to the outdoor education program
• Coordinating Grade 1-12 outdoor trips and activities by identifying destinations securing permits organizing transportation ensuring safety and communication protocols preparing group gear collecting medical/health forms and waivers planning and purchasing food supplies and helping to organize groups and chaperones
• Collaborate with and assist Elementary teachers in planning and implementing class trips connected to their classroom units including co-planning and/or teaching lessons in advance of trips when requested
• Bring different perspectives voices and worldviews to the classroom learning experience including those of Indigenous local and global populations
• Promote a safe and inclusive environment through strong relationship building and classroom management
• Organize curriculum mapping and lesson planning (using the tool Toddle or other)
• Foster a love of learning and an environment that encourages all students to develop and fulfill their academic potential
• Track assessment and feedback through use of formative and summative methods includes student reflections and voice when targeting growth and development
• Attend staff meetings professional development opportunities and serve on committees as required
• Involves self in extended day programming activities
• Model behaviours attitudes and principals for students in all contexts
• Other duties as assigned by the divisional Director

2025-26 Example - For TQS Category 5 1.0 FTE (Step 0) $65202 to $107169 (Step 10) per annum
