About the position

The Academic Practitioner role in the Law School focuses on teaching with a practical emphasis specifically designed for individuals who can bring current law or criminology practice experience into the classroom. It is ideal for those eager to impart practical knowledge to the next generation of law or criminology professionals. This position involves teaching placement subjects as required by the School and may include supervision of students on clinical placements. While all applicants will be considered the Law School is especially interested in expertise in clinical legal practice (Law) or case management (Criminology). This role will be supported by the Director of Work Integrated Learning the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) and the Associate Dean (Academic).

Duties at this level will include:

  • Attend onsite as a supervisor at a legal or criminology clinic
  • Coordinate and teach subjects providing a high-quality learning experience that engages students through the conduct of lectures tutorials and practical classes in online blended or face-to-face modes.
  • Provide constructive fair and timely feedback on learning and assessment to students.
  • Contribute to teaching improvement projects at subject or course level.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer and to building relationships at a local level.
  • Undertake other duties and administrative functions commensurate with the classification and scope of the position as required by the Dean or Associate Dean (Academic).

Specific duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinate and teach allocated law or criminology subjects to LLB (Hons) JD or Bachelor of Criminology students.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position you will have:

  • An Australian law degree and current practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise students and provide feedback on their work with clients.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching curriculum development and/or subject coordination in face-to-face blended and/or online modes as evidenced by sustained high results on student feedback on teaching surveys teaching excellence awards or through other forms of evidence.
  • Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills including the ability to interact effectively collaboratively and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
