Associate Labor & Employment

Location: Rochester (Pittsford) NY Description: Harris Beach Murtha seeks an associate-level attorney to work on a variety of issues in the labor and employment practice. This position will among other things perform research writing and other work relating to all areas of labor and employment law including but not limited to traditional labor/union issues collective bargaining matters discrimination laws and litigation wage and hour law and other laws impacting the employment :Perform research on a variety of labor and employment mattersDraft handbooks and policies Draft position statements and responses to administrative charges (EEOC NY State Division of Human Rights CT Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities)Communicate with clients to obtain information for position statementsDraft motions in federal and state courtRespond to discovery requestsDraft deposition outlines prepare exhibits prepare witnesses. First and second chair depositions Assist partners in preparing for mediations arbitrations oral arguments hearings fact finding conferences and chair and where appropriate first chair mediations arbitrations oral arguments hearings and firm requires a minimum of 1800 billable hours annuallyQualifications:1-4 years experience in labor and employment or litigation lawAdmission to New York State Bar requiredAdmission to Connecticut Bar (or ability to waive in) preferredMust have Juris Doctorate degree with an ABA accredited law school and be an active member in good standing of the barMust have excellent research and writing skills Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writingMust be able to function effectively in a fast-paced team-oriented environment Demonstrated high level organizational skills for prioritizing workload Demonstrated ability to absorb process and understand new information rapidlyMaintains high standards of performance Exhibits conscientiousness dedication self-discipline and a sense of responsibility Must have a professional cooperative positive and flexible attitudeAbility to work with diverse personalities within various levels of the organizationMilitary experience welcomeSalary information below will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position and geographic Beach Murtha is not accepting candidate submissions from recruiting agencies for this Beach Murtha is committed to an inclusive environment and we welcome applications from diverse candidates with varied background and skills including military experience.
