Job Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Flight Lieutenant or WO/MAcr (Any Profession) to serve as Training Officer at 504 Sqn RAuxAF RAF Wittering on Additional Duties Commitment (180) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 24 August 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status and position being vacated).

504 (County of Nottingham) Sqns mission is to attract train employ and retain reservist logisticians and engineers committed to delivering support to Air and Defence operations exercises and diverse tasks across the UK and overseas; and to raise the profile of 504 Sqn celebrating its proud history and promote the work of the RAF Reserves.

The Sqn Training Officer (TO) is responsible to OC 504 Sqn for the effective overall management of 504 Sqns training and training management functions. The Training Officer is the Flt Cdr to the Training team of 9 x FTRS(LC) SP ranging from Cpl to FS. The successful applicant will be required to deliver the following:

a. Develop and maintain a Sqn Management of Training System ensuring that all Higher-Level Documents are current and authorised. Ensure training is delivered in full compliance with JSP 822.

b. Manage all Sqn training activity to include all aspects of the Professional Military Development programme Profession/Specialist Training and local training whether delivered centrally or as franchised/distributed training.

c. Produce and oversee implementation of the Annual Sqn Training Plan and associated Profession specific training programmes. Liaise with the CoC and external stakeholders as required on all training related matters.

d. Produce and implement an Annual Force Development Programme with activities to include physical fitness sport and Adventurous Personal Development Training promoting physical and mental resilience.

e. Maintain accurate Sqn Personnel Training Records to provide required training information for management reporting (internal & external) and that synchronises with JPA for mobilisation purposes.

f. Implement Defence Trainer Capability requirements iaw AP 3379 ensuring effective trainer supervision and monitoring is conducted and CPD plans are raised for all trainers and conduct trainer suitability interviews.

h. Manage the professional development of Sqn training staff. Develop and manage staff Training & Development Strategies provide and coordinate individual advice and coaching/mentoring.

g. Manage Sqn training resources and related financial budgets/bids. Ensure resources for the delivery of formal training are procured in accordance with the Training Delivery Authorities requirements.

h. Promote and enable digital learning as per the RAuxAF Digital Strategy and AP3379 and enable trainers to implement digital learning techniques across all training courses.

i. Manage all Sqn training assurance activity in accordance with AP3379.

j. Conduct Internal Validation and First Line of Defence Audits (1LODA) completing reports and managing non-conformities and observations through the Sqn Quality Improvement Action Plan.

k. Support 22 Gp Assurance Wg (AW) Second Line of Defence Audits (2LODA) including the hosting of pre-audit scoping visits management of the Audit Visit and the implementation of follow up actions.

l. Assist AW by facilitating completion of External Validation questionnaires by PTVR Trainees and line managers.

m. As the Ofsted Nominee ensure the Sqn is prepared for 3rd Party OFSTED inspections to include maintenance of Self-Assessment iaw MODIF and the provision for adequate safeguarding of trainees in accordance with JSP 822 and AP3379.

n. Participate in the Reserves Training Cadre Forum and associated activities to enable Sqn training and the development and collaboration of best practice and developing a more collegiate approach to RAuxAF training.

o. Act as Line manager to all Training Team personnel and all PTVR trainees.

p. Act as 504 Sqns Central Reserves Support Wing (CRSW) Focal Point for all training recruiting and engagement matters.

q. Act as Sqn Engagement Lead for activities supporting CRSWs MEL Employer Engagement events and other military and community engagement activities.

r. Act as Deputy Unit Employer Support Officer.

s. Undertake Stn/Support Force duties as required iaw ADC TCoS.

The post holder will be required to work some weekends (usually one per month) and participate in other sqn training events and exercises as necessary including support to Annual Continuous Training events and supporting ceremonial FD/AT and engagement events which may occasionally take place over weekends and evenings.
