Position Summary

Long-term Substitute Teacher (8-12 weeks) for AP Biology during the fall of 2026. The successful candidate will begin in mid-August 2026.

Essential Duties

Teach four sections of AP Biology on a rotating schedule.
Teach the concepts and laboratory techniques of biology providing a rich and rewarding experience stressing both content and lab skills.
Establish an engaging and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and active engagement. We are a school that believes deeply in Mind Brain and Education science (MBE) practices and thus our teachers are expected to utilize block periods in dynamic and engaging ways.
Assist with supervising an in-school Biology club.
Maintain a regular system of monitoring assessment record-keeping and reporting of student progress.
Communicate and consult with parents over all aspects of their childrens education academic social and emotional.
Contribute to the development and coordination of the departments curriculum.
Recognize health and safety are responsibilities of every employee take responsible care of self and others and comply with the school health and safety policies and any specific procedures/rules that might apply to this position.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A growth mindset and a desire to continually grow as a professional learner.
Bachelors Degree. Advanced degree preferred.
A genuine passion for mentoring teens and embracing the challenges and joys associated with that work is essential.
The ability to teach upper-level (including AP) Biology courses.
Must be willing to engage in school life beyond the classroom: Preference to candidates with the ability/desire to coach and/or lead clubs and/or help advise the school newspaper.
Proficient and enthusiastic user of technology.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
