What youll be doing:
Horticultural Therapy promotes health and well-being using gardening and horticulture related activities. The Horticultural Therapist uses evidence based practices and therapeutic competencies to support patients needs and strengths in the practice of gardening and nature based therapy programming. Horticultural Therapists works within the scope of their practice as defined by the organization and are expected to be members of the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association through which they hold their professional registration status to practice in Canada.
- Provide exceptional customer service within the scope of Horticultural therapy to all patients staff and volunteers of Homewood Health Centre.
- Utilize clinical expertise in the development implementation and evaluation of Horticultural Therapy programs specific to each patient.
- Conduct Horticultural Therapy programs as clinical interventions for all patient programs.
- Assume the primary therapeutic role in the motivation supervision and instruction of Horticultural Therapy treatment programs and interventions.
- Demonstrate ongoing involvement in program planning implementation and evaluation of Horticultural Therapy programs for patient satisfaction.
- Document patient treatment and participation in Horticultural Therapy interventions according to Horticultural Therapy and organizational standards.
- Support individual skill development relating to patient interests.
- Provide garden and greenhouse maintenance of plants and continuing plant care.
- May be responsible to lead a group of volunteers in the support of patient programming and within the Horticultural Therapy department and therapeutic gardens.
- Practices continuous quality improvement using industry and organizational standards to promote continued patient satisfaction.
- Position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physical requirements of outdoor gardening may include: lifting bending squatting kneeling
What were looking for:
- Combined education in both Horticulture and Human Support Services is required: which includes but is not limited to:
- Degree and/or diploma in horticulture horticultural therapy Psychology or appropriate discipline
- Registration with the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association or American Horticultural Therapy Association as either an HTT HTR or an HTM status
