We are currently seeking a casual full-time employee to join our Governance and Corporate Services Department as a Summer Law Student for approximately 4 months. Reporting to the Manager Municipal Law and Policy the incumbent will play a crucial role in supporting the division in research and policy initiatives to support the City of Yellowknife in its initiatives and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts assigned legal research.
  • Assists with developing and reviewing policies across multiple departments.
  • Assists with developing correspondence and reports as assigned.
  • Assist Manager Municipal Law and Policy in providing guidance and support to internal clients on a wide range of legal matters.
  • Provides general support to the Manager Municipal Law and Policy.



Qualifications:

Applicants must be enrolled in a Law program with at least one year of completed studies.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong analytical reasoning and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced and demanding environment

The rate of pay for this position is $28.27 per hour plus applicable benefits as outlined in the PSAC Collective Agreement.
