Job Summary

The Alameda Food Bank is searching for a newProgram Coordinator passionate about ending food insecurity in the City of Alameda. With the help of our six (6) full-time team members over 600 dedicated volunteers including a supportive and engaged Board of Directors the Food Bank is seeking a second Program Coordinator who can leverage their customer-service expertise to support our growing programs that serve over 8000 clients each year!

The Program Coordinator will be the third member of our Programs Team responsible for executing most aspects of the Food Banks distribution programs. Reporting to the Program Manager the position assists in the successful execution of several food distribution programs including the Island Community Market Home Delivery Program Alameda Housing Authority (AHA) on-site distributions and the school pantries and snack programs. Responsibilities include working with our volunteers to ensure we have appropriate staffing to execute our programs monitoring our program sites for product safety and program effectiveness and conducting intake of all potential community members to assess eligibility for our various programs.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

A successful candidate can demonstrate many or all the following attributes:

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in customer service role.
  • Valid California Class C drivers license with insurable driving record and demonstrable skills operating Sprinter size or larger vehicles.
  • Accurate detail-oriented and punctual.
  • Demonstrable mathematical and writing skills.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency to read and respond to email communications as well as enter data into inventory management or database systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work well in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to occasionally work early morning evening or weekend hours with advanced notice.
  • Ability to comply with soft PTO blackout policy during AFBs peak season (November 1st through January 15th).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a warehouse with food or perishable commodities preferably in large-scale operations and/or food store. Food Banking experience a plus.
  • ServSafe certified or ability to earn certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Three (3) years of demonstrable and safe experience operating Sprinter size or larger vehicles.
  • Previous volunteer management experience.
  • Bilingual in Cantonese Mandarin or Spanish.

Physical Requirements

This position is located in both an open warehouse environment and office space and requires working for a part of the shift while being exposed to seasonal weather temperatures. Able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:

  • Work daily in a warehouse environment with temperatures ranging from minus 2 degrees in our cold storage units to above 90 degrees.
  • Traverse the warehouse floor frequently throughout the day to execute duties.
  • Stand/sit for the duration of the scheduled shift.
  • Able to operate computer and mobile devices.
  • Mobility to respond to moving vehicles equipment and loud noises/sounds typical in a warehouse setting.
  • Sit at a desk conference room or workstation for more than three (3) hours at a time.
  • Travel to local events for meetings with external stakeholders.
  • Communicate in clear speaking voice in person before large audiences and over audio or video-based communications applications (e.g. phone Zoom).

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time non-exempt position working scheduled to work Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend hours. The starting rate of pay for this position is $30.42 per hour ($63273.60 annualized) depending on experience. The Food Bank offers a competitive benefit package including:

About the Alameda Food Bank

The Alameda Food Bank (AFB) began operating in 1977 from a closet at Twin Towers Methodist Church providing monthly emergency food to an average of ten local families in need. Today we serve nearly 8000 food insecure individuals in the City of Alameda. Through our all-choice Island Community Market pantries at the Alameda Housing Authority facilities and our home delivery program Alameda Food Bank provides free groceries to those that live work or go to school on the Island. An average family can receive over half of their monthly groceries. Last year we distributed nearly 2 million pounds of food to sustain our community!
