Job Summary

POSITION: Temporary ParaprofessionalLunchroom*

SCHEDULE: (3.5 hrs/day)Monday through Friday

10:30-2:00
LOCATION: Kenowa Hills Central Elementary

*Through the end of the 25-26 SY ONLY

POSITION: Cafeteria / Lunchroom Paraprofessional

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with Pre-K12 students preferred.

  • Ability to communicate with students using age-appropriate tone and language including students with special needs.

  • Ability to maintain a structured and positive environment during lunch and recess periods.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with building staff.

  • Ability to follow established routines and adjust to student needs as required.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality required.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students staff and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise students in the cafeteria lunchroom and recess areas to ensure a safe and orderly environment.

  • Monitor student behavior and support appropriate conduct in accordance with building expectations and district policies.

  • Maintain calm and professional responses when students display challenging behaviors including verbal outbursts or conflicts with peers.

  • Assist with student movement through lunch lines and seating areas.

  • Support students in cleaning up eating areas and maintaining cafeteria expectations.

  • Communicate concerns regarding student behavior or safety to building staff.

  • Reinforce positive behavior expectations and encourage respectful interactions among students.

  • Assist with basic cafeteria tasks such as distributing materials wiping tables and supporting meal service routines when needed.

  • Maintain awareness of student safety and respond appropriately to minor incidents or injuries by notifying appropriate staff.

  • Complete basic documentation or communication related to student supervision as requested by administration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequent standing and walking throughout the cafeteria hallways and outdoor areas.

  • Ability to actively supervise students by moving throughout large spaces for extended periods of time.

  • Frequent bending stooping kneeling and reaching while assisting students and maintaining cafeteria spaces.

  • Ability to lift carry and move items such as cafeteria trays milk crates tables or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to respond quickly to student needs or safety concerns including moving across the cafeteria or playground areas.

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors during recess supervision when assigned.

  • Ability to tolerate moderate to high noise levels typical in school cafeteria and playground environments.

  • Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness in environments where student behaviors may require redirection.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position involves direct interaction with students in busy school environments including cafeterias hallways and playgrounds. Employees may encounter moderate to high noise levels and frequent movement of students during lunch and recess periods.

BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENT

Pursuant to PA 131 the selected candidate must receive clearance from the Michigan State Police Department prior to employment. The candidate is responsible for the fingerprint background check fee.
