About the team:

This role is a member of the Office of General Counsel and Company Secretariat extended leadership team. A newly created role to lead the strategy and performance aspects of the Office of General Counsel incorporating operational strategy and systems.

An opportunity for an experienced legal and governance operations leader to be a senior adviser to the Group General Counsel to drive best practice and effectiveness across Legal and Governance at ASX.

What you will be doing:

Enterprise leadership

As a member of the OGC Leadership Team and the ASX Senior Leadership Team a core part of this role will be the responsibility to role model the ASX Leadership Principles. Including:

  • Shape a dynamic future: Translate strategy into clear direction take an enterprise/system view integrate external insights and challenge the status quo to identify opportunities for innovation and value creation.

  • Enable exceptional outcomes: Set clear priorities pursue goals with discipline and take ownership and accountability for delivery and overall performance.

  • Empower talented people: Build and develop diverse capable teams through coaching and inclusivitycreating an environment that enables autonomy growth and psychological safety.

  • Build trusted relationships: Exemplify open honest and consultative leadershiplistening with empathy and building collaborative partnerships across ASX and with external stakeholders.

Role specific responsibilities

  • Streamlining legal and governance workflows optimising processes and implementing best practices to improve operational efficiency.

  • Overseeing legal and board governance technology and operations including matter management systems and other tools and managing their implementation and use.

  • Leading key legal and business initiatives from inception to completion ensuring milestones are met and objectives are achieved. This will include partnering with ASXs strategy team on OGC annual plans and budget and enterprise-wide business planning and strategy.

  • Developing and executing strategic and expenditure plans for the OGC team to achieve the FY28 strategy and align with broader organisational objectives.

  • Improve matter management processes to ensure legal and regulatory issues and processes are appropriately prioritised and managed and do not become roadblocks on the critical path for business initiatives.

  • Anticipate legal and governance operations trends that present opportunities or challenges for ASX and develop plans to effectively address and implement this across ASX legal and governance teams.

  • Be a thought partner with the Office of General Counsel leadership team to strengthen business partnering while meeting the highest regulatory standards.

  • Build the capability and diversity of the team to meet the current and emerging needs of ASX and develop the teams technology and commercial skills every year.

What you will bring:

Must have

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience translating strategy into clear direction and outcomes taking an enterprise perspective exercising sound judgement and holding accountability for delivery in complex regulated environments

  • Proven ability to lead and influence at scale building high-performing teams fostering trust and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and consistently demonstrating the leadership behaviours expected of senior leaders

  • Recognised as a thought-leader and subject matter expert in legal and governance operations.

  • Demonstrated interest in the intersection of law and technology and the continuous improvement of the delivery of legal services in an in-house legal environment.

  • Experience in legal operations such as business planning and strategy managing budgets and expenses.

  • Demonstrated people leadership skills and business partnering.

  • Applied your expertise to achieve commercial outcomes.

  • Desire to lead legal operations innovation and technology transformation in a high performing team and highly regulated environment.

  • Desire to support technology transformation in a highly regulated environment.

Nice to have:

  • Dealing with regulators in Australia or overseas.

  • In-house experience in financial services or another highly-regulated industry.
