Rutgers the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Medical Services Assistant for the Medicine Department within New Jersey Medical School. The Medical Services Assistant ( MSA ) is to provide medical assistance to nurses and physicians in the overall care of patients including technical procedures such as phlebotomy and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections. The MSA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician when performing clinical tasks during patient care. Among the key duties of the position are the following: Participates in the care of the patient under the direct supervision of the Physician and in collaboration with the healthcare team. Performs related and delegated tasks which includes requests for prescription refills taking and relaying messages directing patient flow and running errands. Identifies self-learning needs related to job description and seeks out appropriate resources to meet learning needs. Schedules patient appointments including outside physicians and hospital/ancillary services. Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments. Maintains a high level of professional responsibility and performance.

Preferred Qualifications
At least one (1) year of related experience in a medical office setting preferred. NJDHSS HIV counselor certification strongly preferred. Knowledge of Newark community preferred. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
