Wieland is hiring a Quality Engineer. The Quality Engineer is responsible for improving production processes and material quality ensuring the cost-effective manufacturing of copper and stainless-steel alloy strips. The position implements the companys quality policies and procedures for laboratory personnel and evaluates base stock materials for acceptance or rejection based on compliance with purchasing specifications. The role also adjusts processing routers to align with available resources authorizes rework of non-conforming materials to meet customer specifications and rejects non-conforming material on the shop floor while initiating remakes as needed. Additionally this position authorizes the return of material from customers when quality requirements are not met.
This role is located in Reading PAand will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities
Quality Engineer Responsibilities:
- Assign processing routers to customer orders.
- Management representative for ISO 9000 quality system andinternal auditor of the ISO 9000 quality management system
- Help organize and manage management review meetingsfor quality management system
- Assistsin all quality audit functions from both customers and outside surveillance audits.
- Review mechanical properties of processed material to meet customer specifications and make processing changes as needed.
- Evaluate non-conformance of in-process material anddeterminematerial disposition for rework reject or remake.
- Evaluate customer complaintsand rejections.
- Determinedisposition of returned material.
- Assistcustomers in selecting alloys for their applications.
- Assistsales with customer specifications.
- Assistmanufacturing with proceduresprocessingand material issues.
- Conduct experiments to develop processing parameters for new items or new alloys and also to evaluate the cause of non-conformance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Quality Engineer Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Science.
- 1-5 years experience in a quality engineering role or similar work experience equivalent.
- Experience in themetalsprocessing industry for copper-baseandstainless-steelalloys - preferred.
- Understanding of metalsprocessing equipment such as rolling mills annealing furnaces leveling linesslittingequipment andtheir capabilities preferred.
- Ability tounderstandmetallurgical properties within the various metal systems
- Knowledgeable in ISO 9000 TS 16949 standards (internal auditor certification)
- Effective Root Cause analysis skills
- Familiarity with SPC PPAP APQP FMEA Control Plans and Quality Improvement Techniques.
- Ability to effectively communicate to customers theirneedsand their requirements
- Certified SixSigma-Minimum yellow belt preferred
- Work Environment is a Manufacturing facility with a Laboratory.
- Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization and handle confidential information.
- Ability to travel for training less than 10%
