Job Summary

About the Company:
The position is in Boardman OH. This position would support two facilities. The buildings are directly across the street from one another. Primary focus would be on product development and process improvement. Company manufactures tap changers and switches used on electrical transformers. We are vertically integrated meaning that the assemblies/switches we create are machined in house. There are basic switch designs that can be customized based on customer specifications. The position would need to understand customer requirements to assist with the manufacturability of the product. Collaborate closely with manufacturing floor team members as well as cross functional departments to ensure quality and outstanding customer service.

We are a matrix organization. The position would report directly to the director of asset management at the corporate head office in London ON Canada. And report dotted line to the two directors of operations at the local Boardman sites.

We re seeking someone with 3 5 years experience minimum. Electrical or mechanical backgrounds preferred. Continuous improvement initiatives such as LEAN 6 SIGMA and Kaizen events are all helpful experience.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Director of Asset Management this role will focus on product design and development for electrical transformer components driving product from conceptualization through ramp-up and production stages ensuring product performance manufacturability and compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. The Product & Process Engineer will also implement Continuous Improvement initiatives and Capital Projects for the US Plants.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and development components for electrical transformers.
  • Creates and maintains 3D models and drawings of components and assemblies using 3D software.
  • Analyzes and ensures product manufacturability is aligned with plant capabilities. Collaborates with Customer on technical matters and product development as required.
  • Contributes to the development of specifications and product test plans.
  • Familiarizes and applies industry standards such as IEC IEEE ANSI and ASME.
  • Analyzes and interpretates results from product design analysis such as finite element analysis vibrations analysis mechanical interferences among others.
  • Works on quotations of product and liaises with Customers on technical matters upon Management request.
  • Analyzes and proposes changes and improvements to workflows and processes at both production and business process levels.
  • Review workflow space requirements and layout of equipment for maximum efficiency.
  • Plan execute and deliver Capital Projects including infrastructure and equipment.
  • Manages Contractors for the projects assigned to them.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Incorporates technologies practices processes and tools to boost throughput and cost-related efficiencies.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control initiatives and tools.
  • Follows a project management approach to developing and implementing activities including managing subcontractors.
  • Implement manufacturing methodologies (5S lean TPS 6-sigma just-in-time among others) to achieve desired results.
  • Collaborates with Plant personnel to optimize production processes.
  • Ensure all health and safety precautions are taken policies are followed and enforced.
  • The Product and Process Engineer may be reassigned to other work matching their qualifications from time to time.
  • Any relevant additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-10 years of experience of relevant post-graduated experience.
  • Bachelor s degree in mechanical electrical or related Engineering field is desired.
  • Experience defining and implementing projects using project management tools.
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement lean manufacturing and other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong experience and skills in using CAD software such as AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS.
  • Knowledge of insulation systems dielectric clearance requirements and oil-filled component design.
  • Understanding of high-voltage systems power transmission and electrical transformers principles.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and engineering change processes
