The Surgical Technologist supports the care of surgical patients during the perioperative phase of care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Organizes prepares and safely handles equipment and supplies for surgical procedures. Utilizes surgeon preference cards. Assists with the provision and reinforcement of patient education according to the plan of care. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program preferred (IMH is willing to train the right candidate). EXPERIENCE Previous experience as a surgical technologist preferred. Previous experience with instrumentation required. Previous hospital experience strongly preferred. CREDENTIALS Must obtain BLS within 60 days of hire and must maintain certification throughout employment with IMH. If graduate of a surgical technologist program must be certified by the ASA as a CST or complete certification within 3 months of hire and must maintain credential throughout employment with IMH. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent customer service skills including but not limited to: a friendly personality tact patience empathy and a helpful professional attitude both in person and on the telephone. Ability to effectively communicate with staff managers and the general public verbally and in writing. Demonstrate effective listening skills. Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to establish priorities effectively. Possess exceptional problem solving skills. Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision. Ability to learn new computer software programs. Ability to recognize and protect confidential information. Demonstrate ethical and legal accountability for the position.
