Position Overview

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) is seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to support the management performance and reliability of its enterprise data systems. This role involves database administration SQL development performance optimization PowerShell scripting Power BI configuration and support for Azure database virtual machines.

This is a hybrid position requiring 2 3 days onsite during the first week then once a month or as needed. Candidates must currently reside in Arizona and be available for in-person interviews within one week of the posting close date.

Key Responsibilities Database Administration & Maintenance
  • Manage database backup recovery maintenance replication and upgrades.
  • Diagnose and resolve operational database issues.
  • Maintain SQL Server environments (SQL Server).
  • Implement SQL Server Always On and clustering configurations.
  • Manage Azure database virtual machines.
Development & Optimization
  • Design develop and optimize stored procedures functions and triggers.
  • Develop complex SQL queries for reporting and analytics.
  • Build and maintain SSIS packages and ETL workflows.
  • Implement indexing strategies to accelerate performance.
Automation & DevOps
  • Write and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation.
  • Implement version control and DevOps practices for database objects.
  • Create scripts and tools to support database administration tasks.
BI & Data Integration
  • Configure and support Power BI datasets gateways and refresh schedules.
  • Collaborate with application and BI teams to support data-driven initiatives.
Security Documentation & Collaboration
  • Implement and review database security mechanisms.
  • Assist in database design migrations and testing procedures.
  • Maintain documentation and support user education.
  • Participate in interviewing onboarding and mentoring junior staff.
  • Provide on-call support as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills
  • SQL Server administration across versions
  • Logical and physical database design
  • Disaster recovery planning and execution
  • Azure database VM management
  • Version control and DevOps for database objects
  • Strong proficiency in either:
    • PowerShell scripting OR
    • Power BI configuration
Education & Experience
  • Bachelors degree and 5 years of database administration experience
    (Equivalent experience may substitute for the degree)
