About the Role
A respected mid-sized law firm in Pittsburgh is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys across a dynamic mix of commercial litigation general litigation and ERISA practice groups. This role is trial-focused and requires someone who can handle the full lifecycle of complex cases from pleadings through discovery arbitration and trial. The ideal candidate is comfortable in fast-paced litigation environments interacts directly with clients and courts and brings a strategic mindset to case preparation.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management & Strategy
- Organize litigation matters and establish case timelines for key events
- Apply key legal doctrines to assist attorneys with case strategy development
- Analyze review and organize documents produced during discovery
- Conduct limited legal research using Lexis and Pacer
- Cite check and shepardize cases to ensure accuracy
Drafting & Filings
- Assist with preparation of pleadings motions notices and correspondence
- Prepare discovery requests and responses
- Assist with federal and state court filings and administrative proceedings (including DOL PBGC and other agency filings)
- Draft and assemble materials for arbitration proceedings
Trial & Deposition Support
- Trial arbitration and deposition preparation
- Prepare and organize trial exhibits
- Coordinate witness materials and deposition summaries
- Provide on-site or behind-the-scenes trial support as needed
Discovery & Document Management
- Coordinate document production and responses to discovery requests
- Work within litigation software to manage commercial cases
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files
Client & Vendor Coordination
- Interact with clients to gather documentation and information
- Liaise with courts opposing counsel process servers and litigation vendors
- Manage attorney calendars and deadline reminders.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (paralegal certificate strongly preferred)
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a paralegal in litigation with exposure to commercial litigation trial preparation and/or ERISA matters
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Word PowerPoint Excel)
- Proficiency with DocuSign and Adobe Acrobat
- Experience with federal and state court e-filing
- Familiarity with discovery processes and document review/production
- Ability to assist with trial preparation and exhibit management
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Notary Public
- Experience with iManage or similar electronic document management systems
- Experience with Aderant or other billing/timekeeping software
- Familiarity with CaseMap TrialMap or Trial Director
- Prior experience in a billable hours environment
- Federal court experience
- Experience with arbitration proceedings
