Location: Onsite Rockville MD

Role: CTH 6 months

Backend Engineer with strong expertise in cloud-native architecture distributed systems and big data technologies to support a FinTech this role you will lead by example write high-quality code solve complex problems and help raise the technical bar across the engineering team.

You will work in a collaborative Agile environment focused on building scalable API platforms and data services that enable interactive access to large-scale datasets. The ideal candidate is passionate about continuous learning innovation and engineering excellence and is motivated to challenge the status quo and drive meaningful technical improvements.

This role requires strong communication influence and ownership along with the ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver secure scalable and high-performance solutions built on AWS using Well-Architected principles.

Responsibilities

• Design develop and deliver backend services and APIs to enable high-performance access to large-scale data.
• Build scalable distributed systems leveraging microservices and modern cloud-native architectures.
• Develop and optimize big data processing pipelines using technologies such as Hive Presto Spark and Hadoop.
• Collaborate with product engineering and QA teams to understand application capabilities and testing scenarios.
• Leverage AWS services to build resilient secure and cost-efficient solutions aligned with Well-Architected principles.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs to serve big data workloads at interactive speed.
• Write efficient and optimized SQL queries for complex data workloads.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning estimation and delivery.
• Continuously improve system performance reliability scalability and security.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends and contribute to innovation initiatives.
• Promote a culture of ownership strong judgment and customer-focused engineering.
• Mentor and support team members while helping establish engineering best practices.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related engineering discipline.
• 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• 5 years of experience in one or more of the following: Java Python JavaScript/TypeScript or SQL.
• 3 years of experience working with big data technologies such as Hadoop Spark or Presto.
• 3 years of experience developing RESTful web services and writing complex SQL queries.
• 3 years of hands-on experience building and deploying applications on AWS.
• Experience working with AWS services such as EMR Hive/Presto ECS Lambda and S3.
• Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices using tools such as Jenkins and CloudFormation.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems microservices and scalable architecture patterns.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred:

• Experience with scripting languages such as Unix Shell Python or Perl.
• Experience building high-throughput or low-latency data platforms.
• Experience in financial services fintech or data-intensive domains.
• Understanding of AWS Well-Architected Framework.
• Experience with event-driven or serverless architectures.
• Strong interest in emerging technologies and continuous learning.

Candidates are required to be living in the MVD area at the time of the interview.
