Job Title: Senior Network Automation Engineer

Location: Remote

Job Type: 6 Months Contract

Rate: $70-$75/hr W2

About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Network Automation Engineer to lead the design security and automation of our enterprise WAN. This role requires deep expertise in Cisco DMVPN architectures coupled with modern DevOps practices. You will bridge the gap between traditional networking (routing IPSec DMVPN) and infrastructure-as-code (Ansible Python GitLab CI/CD) ensuring our network is not just connected but robust repeatable and self-validating.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Secure WAN: Architect and manage multi-phase Cisco DMVPN (mGRE NHRP IPSec) topologies ensuring scalable spoke-to-spoke connectivity.
Automate Infrastructure: Develop production-grade Ansible playbooks and Python scripts (Netmiko/Nornir) to provision and manage network devices securely.
Build CI/CD Pipelines: Maintain GitLab infrastructure-as-code repositories building pipelines for linting testing dry-runs and automated deployments.
Validate & assuring: Implement automated pre/post-change validation (ping/trace/state-checks) and integrate forwarding assurance (e.g. Forward Networks NQE) into release gates.
Troubleshoot Complex Issues: Perform deep-dive analysis on NHRP/ISAKMP/IPSec failures and QoS issues using granular logging and debugging tools.
Documentation & Governance: Create detailed runbooks topology diagrams and Method of Procedure (MOP) documents.

Qualifications:

Expert Network Engineering: Deep experience with Cisco DMVPN (Phases 1 3) multi-tier headend designs and dynamic routing (OSPF EIGRP BGP) over encrypted tunnels.
Automation Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with Ansible (roles/playbooks/Jinja2) and Python automation libraries (Netmiko NAPALM Nornir).
DevOps Mindset: Proven experience with Git workflows (GitLab) CI/CD pipelines and secrets management.
Security Focus: Knowledge of IKEv2 AES-GCM and VRF integration for network segmentation.
Troubleshooting: Ability to debug complex overlay/underlay routing interactions and performance tuning.

Preferred Skills:

Migration Experience: Experience creating rollback plans and executing staged cutovers for large-scale WAN migrations.
Orchestration: Experience with Rundeck for job orchestration RBAC and multi-step execution.
Network Assurance: Familiarity with Forward Networks (NQE) for mathematical network verification and compliance checking.
