Job Summary

Position Summary

The Tooling Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams and external partners to understand production tooling needs and support overall manufacturing performance. This role is responsible for the design improvement and lifecycle management of tooling systems to enhance quality efficiency and operational reliability.

  • Maintain high levels of product quality related to tooling performance

  • Minimize production interruptions associated with tooling issues

Service & Responsiveness

  • Provide timely support for tooling-related production concerns

  • Manage tooling development timelines from request through release

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Innovation

Partner with internal stakeholders to define tooling requirements and develop design solutions that improve throughput and reduce waste. Assess existing tooling systems and recommend enhancements using sound engineering principles and current technologies.

Work closely with external suppliers to support successful execution of tooling initiatives. Conduct feasibility reviews cost evaluations and risk assessments to guide decision-making. Oversee tooling projects from initial concept through implementation ensuring milestones are met and stakeholders are informed of progress.

Cross-Functional Project Support

Collaborate with operations quality and engineering teams to identify and resolve tooling-related challenges. Support scheduling planning and prioritization efforts to align tooling initiatives with production needs.

Continuous Improvement & Development

Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that enhance process capability and manufacturing performance. Remain informed on evolving industry practices standards and compliance requirements. Serve as a technical resource within the organization and support knowledge sharing across teams.

Qualifications

Technical Capabilities

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and manufacturing processes

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and 3D models including GD&T principles

  • Experience with tooling design concepts and process simulation tools preferred

  • Knowledge of measurement methods and safety considerations related to tooling

  • Effective communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences

  • Organized detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities

Education & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical field with tooling design experience
    OR

  • Several years of progressive experience in tooling design within a manufacturing environment

Preferred:

  • Advanced experience in tooling design within heavy manufacturing

  • Familiarity with CAD software

  • Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies
