JOB PURPOSE:

Archival Research Assistant will primarily be responsible for researching the history of the Law Societys Great Library in preparation of activities to mark the bicentennial of the library in 2027.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • The successful candidate will be enrolled in a graduate-level archives / information studies university degree.
  • Some previous experience working in an archives.
  • Familiarity with scanning equipment and software as well as searching archives and library databases
  • Familiarity with copyright and its application to materials in all media.
  • Familiarity with applying the Rules for Archival Description (RAD).
  • Experience using Adobe Minisis CAMS (archives management system) and SharePoint are assets.
  • Excellent research analytical communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Locate evaluate and analyze material relating to the Great Library in the Law Societys archival collection.
  • Conduct secondary source and image research on the Great Library.
  • Digitize relevant records and material according to archival standards.
  • Organize material and ingest documents into a SharePoint library.
  • Re-describe material in the archival collection according to archival standards.
  • Participate in activity planning meetings as well as departmental team meetings.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

WORKING ARRANGEMENT

The Law Society has introduced a Distributed Workforce Model to leverage flexibility and agility and to maximize employee productivity and engagement. Work arrangements will be determined by role and departmental working arrangement for this contract position has been classified as Hybrid where the employee will regularly flex their work location between home and specific application of this will be communicated to applicants contacted during the recruitment process.
