Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director Finance and Operations (EDFO) the Associate Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the work-integrated portfolio for the Faculty of Arts and Science and the development and delivery of work-integrated learning (WIL) programming. The Associate Director will develop an industry and student engagement strategy that considers student industry (including government and not-for-profit organizations) faculty and institutional expectations and objectives.
The Associate Director is responsible for attracting domestic and international students through a WIL program that allows students to gain paid work experience. Working closely with senior leadership the incumbent will lead strategy development and management of programs that blend academic learning with practical work experiences focusing on building industry partnerships ensuring program quality and innovation managing teams securing funding and fostering student career success through strong connections with employers and stakeholders. This position is integral to the Faculty of Arts and Science students successfully attaining and completing WIL work experiences with competitive business sectors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Management:
Leads the strategic direction budget operational planning and leadership of staff within the WIL team.
Determines operational objectives for the WIL team providing day-to-day leadership and direction for successful execution.
Determines and manages staffing needs as it relates to WIL. This may also include the use of contract workers.
Participates in strategic planning and program upgrades and/or changes for all programs. Researches and makes recommendations on new program initiatives including budget implications to the Dean.
Creates strategic integration between corporate relations and professional development programming for students within the Faculty for ongoing support for and success of WIL programming.
Ensures and supports alignment with Faculty of Arts and Science academic programs and strategy.
Effectively manages relationships with alumni to foster support and engagement with Faculty.
Develops and implements new student and staff-related policies within the scope of the WIL team.
Manages data that strategically supports the Facultys ranking through the collection of data relating to job placements interviews new business new activity job postings and interview statistics with direct corporate feedback.
Manages performance by establishing annual performance standards reviewing and evaluating performance and conducting formal performance reviews on an ongoing basis.
Assesses staff training and development needs and ensures that employees receive training required to improve and sustain successful performance.
Investigates addresses and resolves student complaints and/or concerns with regard to any staff interactions or services delivered under their authority.
Investigates addresses and resolves employee/labour relations issues including making decisions regarding disciplinary and discharge matters.
Corporate Relations and Business Development
Collaborates with Faculty stakeholders to ensure that there will be an appropriately equipped supply of students into the corporate talent acquisition environment.
Creates and implements the annual WIL plan for each program which includes scheduling all activities throughout the year.
Builds attracts and retains positive relationships with representatives from the schools corporate partners with an understanding of employer needs and priorities to continuously improve service and support
Develops and launches annual business development campaign to drive work-integrated recruitment and connections leveraging alumni and advisory boards. Leads marketing brand and employment strategies based on labour market analysis industry trends and alignment with Queens values.
Promotes the student population of the Faculty of Arts and Science to corporate partners and alumni in Canada and internationally through regular contacts by ensuring awareness of student talent and find relevant credit-worthy and safe opportunities for students.
Develops customer service standards and processes that include an end-to-end employment process to handle conflicts and assessments of employer satisfaction.
Researches corporate relationship programs delivered by other top tier schools in order to advance work-integrated learning and funding opportunities
Draws on industry/functional knowledge labour market trends and professional networks to guide relevant programming and advance the exchange of networks between the students and alumni recruiters faculty or other professionals to enable student success.
Student and Faculty Relations
Collaborates with faculty members and staff on strategic direction and leadership for WIL programming structure process management/integrity benchmarking and planning to maximize connections between skill development in the classroom and the workplace.
Develops a WIL programming strategy that includes advising support and aligns with Queens values that includes feedback mechanisms from student and faculty and regular metrics. This would also include direction for learning outcomes regulations policy and process.
Collaborate to provide high-quality service meeting the needs of the students.
Provides input to the Admissions team by reviewing applicants for Faculty of Arts and Science programs and makes recommendations to the admissions committee based upon fit and employment potential.
Engages with student and faculty groups to collaborate and involve them in how we best support students in the WIL program.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree required with a minimum of five years in higher education co-op WIL and/or experiential education.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in leadership roles developing strong teams particularly in relation to recruitment and retention.
Understands the talent needs of corporations both in Canada and internationally.
Experience working within academic and academic support units is an asset.
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Senior management level leadership skills organizing motivating directing and facilitating individuals and teams to achieve objectives within a positive team environment.

Determine the appropriate organizational structure and the delegation of responsibilities to staff within the WIL team.
Evaluate job candidates and makes effective recommendations on suitable hires.

Evaluate employee performance and decides on appropriate training or coaching to address the lack of proficiency in carrying out responsibilities or remedial action for staff disciplinary situations.

Make effective recommendations on discipline up to the level of discharge and probationary termination.
