PURPOSE

We are seeking a full-time Director of School Counseling to join in our School Counseling office to assist in various capacities towards providing support to the community in a confidential and professional manner. The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of a masters degree level in school counseling or a related-field of study and be (or eligible to be) certified/licensed as a counselor in Missouri with a demonstrated ability to work in a college preparatory environment. The individual will work in a structured and collaborative environment with others who are committed to the formation of each student according to the principles of the Grad at Grad: Open to Growth Intellectually Competent Religious Committed to Doing Justice and Loving. This is a 10-month position.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Administration

  • Develop manage and evaluate the annual department budget and capital expenses
  • Lead the School Counseling Department team cultivating a collegial mission-driven culture
  • Oversee the development implementation and evaluation of departmental programs
    policies and procedures in the spirit of cura personalis for our students

  • Provide performance feedback and mentorship and conduct annual evaluations of
    department members
  • Review applications interview and train new hires; mentor new counselors and staff
  • Serve as lead conduit between School Counseling and school administration

Program Oversight & Evaluation

  • Evaluate the efficacy of tiered interventions and wellness programming
  • Develop data systems to measure program outcomes and student wellbeing
  • Ensure appropriate confidential recordkeeping in accordance with school policies
  • Manage the Student Support Team meetings to address concerns related to behaviors that
    are disruptive to student learning and success.
  • Collaborate in designing advisory and small-group programs that enhance student wellness.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Ensure effective coordination between School Counseling and several offices and
    departments including but not limited to the Academic Offices College Counseling Office
    and other key offices (Deans Office/Nurse Campus Ministry Admissions)
  • Work with the Director of Communications and IT to maintain current digital resources
    (website Blackbaud pages)
  • Collaborate with colleagues on parent/guardian education initiatives and school-wide
    wellness efforts.
  • Participate on school committees and present to various school groups as needed.
  • Promote the School Counseling Department among faculty and staff.

Student & Family Support

  • Maintain an assigned reduced caseload of students providing individualized counseling and
    care.
  • Address escalated issues from parents guardians or teachers
  • Collaborate with the Admissions Office on cases involving student/family needs.
  • Oversee the departments role in annual registration processes.
  • Model effective partnerships with parents/guardians to support student growth and
    wellbeing.
  • Balance counselor caseloads annually and handle any counselor change requests.

Professional Development & School Wellness

  • Identify and assess school-wide wellness needs using various assessment tools

Other Duties

  • Support the broader school mission through service committee work and additional
    assignments as needed

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters degree in school counseling or related counseling degree
  • Minimum 5 years experience in related education field preferred
  • Preferred experience with supporting families and parents
  • Preferred experience in management
  • Clear understanding of and commitment to Rockhurst High Schools mission
  • Student-focused approach to counseling which includes a desire to build positive
    relationships that are characterized by mutual respect and trust
  • Strong organizational written and verbal communication skills
  • Reflective practice and a desire towards growth
  • Strong understanding of current theory and practice in the field of counseling

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit stand and walk throughout the school day including moving between
    classrooms offices and other campus locations.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods during meetings counseling
    sessions or computer-based work.
  • Ability to lift carry or move materials such as files resources or small equipment (typically
    up to 1020 lbs).
  • Sufficient vision hearing and manual dexterity to conduct counseling sessions engage with
    students and families use office and communication technology and complete
    documentation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person in writing and during group
    presentations or trainings.
  • Ability to respond promptly to student needs crisis situations or urgent concerns which
    may require walking quickly climbing stairs or moving across campus.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for parent programs school events or
    emergency support as needed.
