SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Warner Bros Discovery is a leading global media and entertainment company that creates and distributes the worlds most differentiated and complete portfolio of content and brands across television film and streaming. The Studio Controllership Group is Warner Bros. Discoverys global accounting team. The team serves to provide efficient and scalable global finance and accounting services to the Warner Bros. Discovery Group of Companies.
We are looking for a Manager to join the Studios Controllership accounting team. The Studios Controllership accounting team is responsible for global by title accounting and reporting accuracy and completeness of content costs across all Warner Bros. studios segment.
The Manager Studios Controllership will be supporting the film studio production division of Warner Bros Motion Picture Group including Warner Bros Pictures New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Pictures Animation. The team is responsible for reviewing all P&L activity; preparing journal entries for production cash hedge gain/loss accruals tax incentive receivables and other ad hoc entries as needed. This role will ensure all deliverables are completed timely accurately and will sign off on necessary close requirements. The candidate must be proactive able to critically think and work independently.
Job Responsibilities
1. General Accounting Responsibilities
- a. Responsible for day-to-day general accounting and reporting activities
- b. Review daily cash journal entries prepared by Mexico teams
- c. Review and approve wire requests participation funding and production payments
- d. SAP Master data maintenance responsibilities including add/maintain MPMs in IPM create new bank GL accounts new development production and music projects etc.
- e. Prepare various reports to support external reporting requirements
- f. Provide guidance to staff on researching and clearing Suspense account transactions
2. Monthly/Quarterly Deliverables
- a. Responsible for certain month & quarter end close activities such as:
- i. Review various monthly journal entries and accruals
- ii. Prepare capitalized film cost journal entries (Released Inventory Completed Not Released and In Process).
- iii. Prepare capitalized interest calculations
- iv. Prepare and reconcile hedge accounting
- v. Review inventory package schedules OCI recon worksheet and other supplemental schedules as required
- vi. Prepare co-fi partner interest calculations reconciliations and invoices as needed
3. Lead the implementation of process improvements and standardization to gain greater efficiency and effectiveness within the finance organization.
4. Other special projects as required.
JOB QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Work Experience
- 5 years previous work experience in an accounting or finance field.
- Highly motivated analytical proactive and self-sufficient
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with people on all levels in person via email or other digital format and on the telephone.
- Must have the ability to pay close attention to detail and understand written and oral instructions.
- Must have the ability to organize and schedule work effectively.
- Must have the ability to multi-task projects simultaneously and be able to prioritize.
- Must be able to adapt in a changing environment and quickly learn new concepts solve problems and implement solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Excel.
- Must be able to work reasonable overtime if necessary.
Education Professional Training Technical Training or Certification
- BA/BS degree in Finance or Accounting required.
- CPA or MBA equivalent strongly preferred.
Knowledge/Skills
- Must be fluent or near fluent in English.
- Experience working with large amounts of data preferred.
- Experience with SAP is a plus.
- Working in shared service and/or outsourcing environment a plus.
- Previous Big 4 accounting experience preferred.
