Upper School Biology Teacher

Charlotte Latin School is seeking an Upper School Biology teacher for a full-time 10-month position beginning August Upper School Biology teacher is an integral part of Latins Upper School faculty. Teachers have the freedom to teach unique individualized science courses at the Advanced Placement honors standard and elective levels. Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities advising and/or coaching.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach 4 sections of Biology (and other sciences)
• Partner with colleagues to create and update course curriculum
• Collaborate with colleagues on grading and assessment practices
• Assess students academic performance including regular grading
• Provide 1:1 support to students during office hours before and after school
• Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current within the field
• Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities advising and/or coaching

• None

Education and Experience

• Minimum of a bachelors degree; masters or doctoral degree in Biology or associated area highly preferred
• Experience teaching biology is required
• Experience teaching chemistry or physics is preferred
• Experience teaching a wide variety of course levels is preferred
• Experience teaching in an independent school is preferred

Working Conditions and Environment

• Intermittently lift carry push and pull up to 25 pounds.
• Continuously see sit balance grasp and have repetitive use of arms wrists hands and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.
• Frequently talk and hear.
• Intermittently stand stoop bend twist crouch kneel crawl walk climb stairs step stools and ladders operate foot and hand controls squeeze and reach above shoulders.
• Exposure to dust chemicals fumes flammables grease dirt stacked materials electrical equipment machinery low to medium noise levels and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.
• Long or odd hours as needed.
