EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE and LICENSURE Required: Department of Education Licensure as a Teacher of Social Studies. Acceptable C.O.R.I. report as determined by the Superintendent. Preferred: Prior work experience as a Social Studies Teacher. Competency in use of current related educational RESPONSIBILITIES - Teaches content and skills in Social Studies to secondary students utilizing the course of study adopted by the School Committee that is in full alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. - Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school. - Adapts Social Studies material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students. - Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students; maintains required inventory records. - Adapts the curriculum to provide individual small group or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student. - Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions based on a variety of mass media and primary and secondary sources. - Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas. - Evaluates each students progress in Social Studies skills (listening speaking reading and writing). - Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly productive classroom environment. - Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems. - Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. - Administers or monitors group tests. - Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. - Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. - Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and in self-selected professional growth activities. - Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law school policy and administrative procedures. - Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119 Section 51A). - Complies with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy. - Any other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
