Job Summary

For over 20 years the YMCA has delivered social health & wellness programming in the South 2026 the YMCA is growing and diversifying programming through the spaces at Carmi Parkway and Giants Head elementary school gymnasiums. Were expanding our leadership team and searching for an experienced individual to become the Manager of Community Programs.

Under the leadership of the GM of Community Programs this new Management opportunity will be the first to fuse social and health services from across all departments of the YMCA within new centres of community throughout Penticton and Summerland.

Why This Role Matters

This position will lead the launch and growth of a new community-driven initiative focused on strengthening belonging access and prevention-based supports for children youth and families across the South Okanagan. This is a start-up leadership role within an established organization requiring both strategic vision and hands-on execution.

  • Launch and manage programs staff and systems from inception.
  • Oversee program design execution and enhancement.
  • Lead recruitment hiring supervision and support staff and contractors.
  • Manage budgets and reporting.
  • Represent the initiative to external partners and stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with key groups including Indigenous and community organizations.
  • Act as a community ambassador.
  • Collaborate with partners and participants on programming.
  • Foster an inclusive positive team culture.
  • Support staff well-being.
  • Provide strategic leadership for prevention initiatives (prenatal wellness mental health youth parenting seniors programs).
  • Coach staff toward high service standards.
  • Maintain partnerships with agencies like YMCA and schools.
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements.
  • Track outcomes and submit progress reports.
  • Support fundraising and philanthropy efforts.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Wed love to hear from people with:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field Masters degree preferred (e.g. Counselling Social Work Leadership);
  • Experience launching or scaling programs services or initiatives
  • Skills to adapt to changing needs and excel in ambiguity and building new structures.
  • Community-based nonprofit or social services leadership experience
  • Strong partnership-building and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Minimum 5 years experience working with clients considered multi-barriered;
  • Direct management and supervisory experience leading staff in a community program setting (especially in growth or change environments);
  • Experience with developing community-based programming and working in collaboration with other community agencies and service providers;
  • Strong business writing skills including experience with reporting and developing plans;
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and conflict resolutions skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgements and decisions; effective prioritizing and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to be flexible adaptable and multi-task in a high demand environment with changing programs;
  • Ability to work independently take initiative and manage time effectively in a fast paced changing environment
  • Current First Aid certificate and Criminal Record Check required;
  • Ability to work some evenings weekends and a flexible schedule as required;
  • Vehicle required

Compensation:

  • 28.83/hr plus the YMCA of Southern Interior BC offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including:
    • 3 weeks paid vacation
    • Paid wellness days

    • Annual Y pension of 5% (after 2 years)
