About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Specialist Regulatory Approvals the Lead Regulatory Approvalsis responsible foracquiringregulatory approvals for major water quality management and mine development projects through our Social Environmental and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) framework at our coal mining operations.
To be successful we are looking for someone with strong knowledge of federal and provincial regulatory approvals processes and regulations particularly within British Columbia. The ideal candidate brings a background in aquatic sciences water management or a related person is self-motivated detail-orientatedand can organize and prioritize competing demands. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to connect with internal and external parties toidentifyand resolve issues are vital for success.

In this role you will:

    • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
    • Establish and implement regulatory approvals and engagement strategies
    • Retain and manage the work of multi-disciplinary consulting teams including environmental baseline programs impact assessments and related budget scope management and schedule
    • Lead the development of regulatory approvals applications including inputs to project scoping and prefeasibility studiesidentifyingSERA risks and strategies to mitigate risks setting direction for application content holding external pre-application meetings mine review committee meetings and managing the preparation of the applications
    • Lead the application review process on behalf of EVR including coordinating responses to reviewer comments and negotiation of draft permit conditions
    • Cultivate a culture of strong integration and collaboration with mine operations project engineering teams and subject matter experts
    • Engage with regulators Indigenous nations and local communities
    • Ensure alignment of regulatory approvals work with social responsibility and regional environmental programs such as aquatic monitoring water quality modelling and cumulative effects
    • Deliver regular briefings and recommendations to internal SERA advisory groups and Project Boards

Requirements:

    • Environmental science or engineering degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum five to seven yearsdemonstratedability in regulatory approvals impact assessment and project management in the natural resource sector preferably in mining
    • Strong working knowledge with respect to water management and aquatic related fields is preferred
    • Experience in engaging and collaborating with Indigenous nations regulatory agencies and other communities of interest
    • Strong digital literacy using Microsoft Office Suite; specifically Excel PowerPoint and Word
    • Specific knowledge and experience with permitting under the following British Columbia legislation: Mines Act Water Sustainability Act Environmental Management Act and Forest Act
    • Valid Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent
$105000 - $149000 a year
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidates relevant experience skills and competencies and considers internal equity.
