The Field Representative supports dry bean seed and commercial origination activities by working directly with growers monitoring fields and providing agronomic guidance to ensure crop quality and production standards are met. This role serves as a liaison between growers and Operations to drive communication and continuous improvement throughout the growing season. The off-season is dedicated to evaluating the prior years performance and strengthening future production plans while also supporting plant or warehouse operations as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute established grower contracts and communicate regional industry information and updates.
- Monitor grower fields for crop progress pest and disease issues irrigation practices and overall plant health.
- Collect and record field data including mapping and seed certification requirements stand counts grading estimates and harvest quality checks.
- Provide recommendations and technical support to growers under the guidance of the Field Production Manager.
- Assist in implementing origination plans ensuring correct acreages and production practices are followed.
- Communicate with growers to address concerns and relay updates to management.
- Support grading germination and purity testing by gathering samples and coordinating with quality staff.
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Collect records and data to analyze grower production variety and area performance to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Develop reviews of this information to be shared with management.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of variety fact sheets.
- Develop a strong knowledge of key quality drivers for high-quality seed. For example purity and germination.
- Develop a strong knowledge of state seed certification requirements and specifications.
- Support production operations during the off-season by assisting in plant warehouse or equipment areas as needed.
- Organizes and sponsors grower appreciation functions.
- Participates in bean associations and grower-related events
- Identifies and participates in training and continuing education opportunities to maintain and develop expertise in the dry bean industry.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Required education and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience
- Background in crop consulting (recommending herbicides insecticides) or agriculture.
- Valid drivers license with clean driving record.
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be able to self-motivate and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Requires strong communication skills.
- Possesses a personable and outgoing personality and a positive attitude.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word Excel Outlook) and willingness to learn and use company software.
- Available to work overtime during peak seasons such as planting and harvest.
Preferred education and experience
- Associate or Bachelors degree in Agronomy Crop Science or related field
- Experience in crop scouting seed production or agricultural consulting
- Knowledge of bean varieties and production market classes soil types plant structure market pricing and demand.
