About the Role: We are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong turbopump engineer to join our propulsion team. The selected candidate will be responsible for the design analysis testing and optimization of high-speed turbopump systems used in liquid rocket engines. This role requires deep understanding of fluid dynamics rotating machinery cryogenic systems and rocket propulsion fundamentals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Development
Design centrifugal and axial turbopumps for LOX LH2 RP-1 or other propellants
Perform hydraulic design including impeller diffuser inducer and volute design
Develop rotor dynamics models for high-speed rotating assemblies
Optimize pump efficiency cavitation margin and pressure rise
2. Analysis & Simulation
Conduct CFD analysis for flow behavior and cavitation prediction
Perform FEA for structural integrity under high pressure and cryogenic conditions
Conduct rotor dynamic analysis including critical speed vibration and stability
Thermal analysis for cryogenic and high-temperature operation
3. Testing & Validation
Plan and execute turbopump performance testing
Develop test rigs and instrumentation setup
Analyze test data for head flow rate efficiency NPSH and vibration
Troubleshoot failures and recommend corrective actions
4. Integration & System Engineering
Work closely with combustion chamber and engine teams for system integration
Support engine hot-fire tests
Ensure compatibility with feed system and propellant management systems
Maintain compliance with aerospace safety and quality standards
5. Documentation & Compliance
Prepare design reports technical documentation and review presentations
Maintain configuration control and design revision tracking
Support qualification and certification processes
Required Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering Mechanical Engineering or related field
26 years of experience in turbomachinery or rocket propulsion systems
Strong understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
Experience with CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent CFX Star-CCM)
Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS Abaqus Nastran)
Knowledge of rotor dynamics and high-speed rotating machinery
Understanding of cryogenic propellant handling
Preferred Skills
Experience in liquid rocket engine turbopumps
Knowledge of cavitation suppression techniques
Familiarity with materials used in cryogenic and high-stress environments
Experience in rocket engine hot-fire testing
Understanding of aerospace quality standards
