An outstanding secondary school in the London Borough of Haringey is seeking to appoint a compassionate and dedicated Welfare Officer to support the wellbeing and safeguarding of its students. The Welfare Officer plays a crucial role within the school community working closely with pastoral teams safeguarding leads and families to promote student wellbeing attendance and engagement. Key Responsibilities

Provide frontline welfare support to students during the school day
Support students experiencing emotional social or wellbeing challenges
Work closely with the safeguarding team to support vulnerable students
Assist with attendance monitoring and follow-up procedures
Liaise with parents and carers regarding student welfare and wellbeing
Support the management of the school medical room and first aid provision
Maintain accurate records of welfare incidents and interventions
Work with pastoral staff to develop support plans for students in need
Promote positive wellbeing initiatives across the school
Assist students returning to school after illness or absence
Provide support during unstructured times such as break and lunch
Work collaboratively with external agencies where appropriate

Requirements

Experience working with young people in an educational or pastoral role
Strong understanding of safeguarding and student wellbeing
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
Confidence maintaining confidential records and safeguarding procedures
First aid qualification (or willingness to obtain one)
Commitment to supporting inclusion and student welfare
Ability to work effectively within a team
