Who we are

CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education) is recognised internationally as a leader in girls education for its child protection policy and practise as a voice for girls education and womens empowerment at the highest levels. Founded in 1993 CAMFED supports young women throughout their primary and secondary school years into economic training and further education and onto leadership as role models activists and philanthropists.

Principle Accountability

The Program Officer role will be based in Kenya (Nairobi or Kajiado) and will report to the Head of Programme. This role will be responsible for supporting the National County and Sub-County level programs and operations of the CAMFED investment plan in Kenya. These include co-design and joint implementation of programs in alignment with the Government priorities and CAMFED mission. This role will focus on capacity building planning implementation monitoring evaluation and reporting of all CAMFED in school and out-of-school activities which includes keeping children in school and developing the CAMFED Association (CAMA) network as a vehicle for young womens empowerment.

Specific Accountabilities

Program Implementation Leadership & Support

  • Lead in the implementation of CAMFEDs in school and out-of-school programme in the designated counties towards the attainment of CAMFEDs strategic plan including ensuring effective and quality delivery of the programme activities in line with the annual work plan and donor targets.

  • Ensure timely and quality implementation of activities and projects in all designated Counties.

Activity Monitoring and Reporting

  • Ensure activities and projects are reported on time across all designated Counties.

  • Conduct regular support visits to the counties and sub counties to monitor progress and provide on-the-ground support.

  • Production of quality routine monthly and quarterly narrative financial and compliance reports.

Data Management & Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Facilitate and monitor the completeness and accuracy of data collected in designated counties using Salesforce and/or Excel.

  • Ensure that all data collection tools are administered and submitted correctly and on time.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate network and build effective working relationships with relevant institutions partners team members non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and Government agencies to help create opportunities and advancement of the CAMFED agenda.

Capacity Building and Learning

  • Coordinate lesson learning sharing of best practices and skills sharing amongst teams and CAMFED structures which include CAMA Parent Support Groups Teacher Mentors and Community Development Committees.

  • Facilitate the establishment technical support and requisite capacity building of County staff and programme delivery structures in designated counties in strategic planning and budgeting programme implementation monitoring evaluation learning reporting and other developmental areas.

  • Organizing facilitating and managing designated/ planned National and County level training meetings and workshops for staff and stakeholders.

Project Development

  • Contribute to the design and development of project proposals and reporting to donors.

  • Recommend for consideration potential collaborations to scale and/or improve the work of the National County and community structures.

  • As a member of the management team you will be expected to participate and or implement designated special projects and assignments from time to time.

Financial Management & Administration

  • Process consolidate and produce designated quarterly Expenditure Authorizations and work plans.

  • Implementing the approved annual/quarterly work/operating plans and budgets in compliance with donor requirements and CAMFEDs policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise mentor and support County and Sub County staff to ensure high performance and adherence to CAMFED standards.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews provide constructive feedback maintain the discipline and support professional development of your team.

  • Facilitate clear communication and coordination between National and County teams.

  • Ensure that all team members understand and comply with organizational policies safeguarding protocols and donor requirements.

Safeguarding

  • Familiarize yourself with CAMFEDs Child Protection (CP) and Safeguarding policies and procedures ensuring compliance during program delivery.

  • Report any Child Protection and Safeguarding concerns or incidents promptly to the designated officers and authorities.

  • Contribute to creating an atmosphere where all individuals feel safe and respected encouraging open communication about Child Protection and Safeguarding issues.

  • Engage in regular CP safeguarding training and development sessions to stay informed about best practices and updates in CP and safeguarding protocols.

  • Be vigilant and recognize signs of abuse or neglect and understand the appropriate steps to take when concerns arise.

  • Handle all safeguarding information with confidentiality sharing details only with those who need to know in accordance with legal and organizational guidelines.

Any other duties as assigned by the Head of Programmes.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong ability to implement and manage programs effectively ensuring alignment with strategic plans and annual work schedules.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships with local partners NGOs government agencies and funding organizations.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to lead and motivate teams with ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.

  • Strategic thinking: Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and implement innovative solutions proven track record of identifying and resolving complex issues.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with diverse communities.

  • Experience in preparing reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes to assess program effectiveness.

  • A demonstrated commitment to CAMFEDs values including safeguarding and equity and to achieving CAMFEDs mission.

  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues from a range of functions and countries.

  • Proactivity efficiency and attention to detail.

  • Experience working with CAMFED as a CAMA member or partner will be an added advantage.

Essential:

  • Bachelors degree in any social science or related field. A masters degree will be an added advantage.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in program management and/or related field.
