The School of Biological Sciences Te Kura Mātauranga Koiora (SBS) is seeking an enthusiastic educator to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality undergraduate teaching and help shape the learning experience for students studying biological sciences.

In this role you will deliver engaging lectures laboratories and tutorials support curriculum development and work alongside colleagues to enhance our undergraduate programmes. You will also play an important role in supporting students academically and helping foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.

There may also be opportunities to teach at international partner institutions including in China.

This is a full-time (40 hrs per week) permanent role 

The remuneration is from $105790 - to $128065 per annum and will be dependent on skills and experience

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about delivering impactful research-informed student-centred learning experiences. The successful candidate will work in a collegial collaborative academic community to lead the coordination of undergraduate courses and deliver high-quality accessible teaching using evidence-based pedagogical practices. Staff at the University of Auckland are expected to contribute to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their work and enacting the principles outlined in Taumata Teitei the Universitys strategic plan.

A postgraduate tertiary qualification in biology is required with subject expertise in at least one of the following subject areas: molecular biology cellular biology genetics molecular ecology biochemistry. A track record of developing innovative teaching methodologies and high-quality learning resources is preferred as is familiarity with different teaching modalities and learning management systems. Experience with coordination of undergraduate courses is advantageous and a teaching qualification is preferred but not essential. The role involves the pastoral care of students with diverse learning needs as well as other relevant duties across undergraduate levels. Candidates are expected to demonstrate engagement with or a strong interest in contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to inclusiveness and experience in teaching students from diverse backgrounds particularly with Māori and Pasifika. Skills that foster the inclusion of te ao Māori principles in programmes teaching and the student experience are highly desirable.
