The Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM) is seeking a senior level transportation leader to serve as the Senior Director for Bus Priority within its Transit Development unit responsible for the strategic leadership and delivery of the Citys bus priority program. Help lead a dynamic team doing essential work that directly improves mobility equity and quality of life for millions of New Yorkers.
Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner for Transit Development the Senior Director will oversee the planning design implementation and performance management of bus lanes busways and corridor-based transit supportive street improvements that enhance bus speeds reliability safety for millions of riders each year. The Senior Director will 1) manage and mentor a team of approximately a dozen planners engineers analysts and project managers providing leadership guidance and strategic direction; 2) spearhead the bus priority program budgets and support the Assistant Commissioner in grant solicitation financial planning and forecasting; 3) guide the development of innovative accessible bus stop designs and standards; 4) advance complex corridor redesigns to meet locally mandated Streets Plan bus lane goals; 5) champion and promote design innovation and pilot new approaches to street geometry and materials; 6) direct data driven project development implementation sequencing and post-implementation project evaluation; 7) coordinate closely with the MTA sister agencies and internal DOT divisions to ensure integrated project delivery; 8) develop and retain stakeholder relationships and represent the agency in high profile engagements with elected officials community boards advocacy organizations and the public. The Senior Director will play a critical leadership role in advancing mayoral and agency priorities and ensuring that transformative bus priority projects are delivered with technical excellence operational effectiveness and strong community engagement.
The Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM) ensures the safe efficient and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods throughout the Citys streets. Within TPM the Transit Development (TD) unit develops transit supportive street infrastructure and policies to improve mobility for all New Yorkers. TD manages the Better Buses initiative and a robust portfolio of locations specific projects that improve the quality and safety of bus operations and enhance pedestrian access to transit. TD also serves as a key resource to the agency on transit related matters and acts as one of the primary points of contact with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
ADM CITY PLANNER (NON MGRL) - 1005A
Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four (4) years of full-time experience in city planning at least eighteen (18) months of which must have been in a managerial capacity; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 above. However a baccalaureate degree and eighteen (18) months of managerial experience in city planning is required of all candidates. Graduate work leading to an advance degree in city planning or related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the non-managerial experience on a year-for-year basis. Graduation from an accredited United States Law School may be substituted for two (2) years of non-managerial
experience.
