Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated engineer to join the Inductive Adder (IA) R&D project : an innovative technology under development for the Multi-Turn Extraction kicker magnet in the Proton Synchrotron.

The IA will significantly improve the sustainability of kicker generators and pave the way for the future of fast-pulsed systems at CERN.

As part of the team you will design develop and test the operational control systems for the inductive adder as part of a cutting-edge solid-state switched generator.

You will have the opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a culturally diverse environment in the Electronics Section of the Accelerator Beam Transfer Group (ABT).  The job includes full development of a hardware control crate with test/validation testbench.

Your responsibilities:

  • Assist in hardware design reviews and production.
  • Design produce and test mixed digital and analog electronic modules (PCB) including high voltage parts.
  • Design produce and test backplanes (PCB) to be integrated in a mechanical crate.
  • Design produce and test the full control crate including control and High Voltage distribution interfaces.
  • Additionally you will be asked to participate to the integration and deployment of the Hardware on site.

Your profile:

  • Knowledge of PCB design of analogue/digital circuits preferably Altium or KiCad designer.
  • Knowledge of Python and/or C/C would be an asset.

Skills:

  • Design of electronic circuits (schematics PCB).
  • Routing skills would be an asset.
  • Spoken and written English or French with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electronics Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelors or Masters degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Additional Information :

Job closing date: 31.03.2026 at 23:59 CET.

Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite

Target start date: 01-May-2026
