Facilities Maintenance Technician
Purpose:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is a key role responsible for the general oversight of our industrial production facilities to ensure a safe functional and compliant environment. This role oversees preventative maintenance performs routine checks and minor repairs tracks utility usage and coordinates with subcontractors/ vendors when needed. Reporting under the Facilities Department this position regularly interfaces with internal and external partners to support equipment and infrastructure and may also participate in future facility planning efforts.
Position may require hours beyond a standard work week to include nights and weekends to support operational needs. Regular reliable attendance is critical to success in this role.
The position is located onsite in Norfolk VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct daily inspections and setting of building systems includingHVAC heating lighting supply and exhaust ventilation doors plumbing gasses electrical and water systems etc.
- Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on large overhead doors gate operators and railroad crossing system.
- Monitor record and report the operational status of building equipment and conditions to Facilities/ Maintenance.
- Track/document utility usage (electric gasses water sewer) for each assigned building and identify irregularities or inefficiencies in utility consumption and report findings.
- Provide oversight to various preventative maintenance programs (to include specialized equipment cranes and mechanical assets) and may perform minor repairs on mechanical electrical plumbing and building systems.
- Initiate respond to and oversee/track status of maintenance requests (workorders) and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Ensure building systems operate efficiently and comply with quality / safety standards.
- Follow all safety procedures including fall protection and equipment operation protocols.
- Coordinate with external contractors and service providers for specialized repairs.
- Maintain maintenance logs checklists and service records.
- Assist with emergency response related to building and building systems (power outages water leaks HVAC failures).
- Support general facility upkeep and operational readiness and assist Facilities management as needed.
RequiredQualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade training preferred) and 13 years of experience in facilities building maintenance or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC plumbing electrical and mechanical systems is required.
- Ability to read meters gauges and maintenance documentation
- Must be able to regularly operate and work fromelevated platforms and high-reach equipment with valid forklift & material handling equipment certifications (or ability to obtain certifications).
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and perform routine physical tasks.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Experience reading and tracking utility meters and usage data preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job but no less than 20 lbs.
- Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders work in extreme temperature environments aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces including enter and moving through manholes.
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat humidity noise and dirty conditions working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
- While performing the duties of this job you may frequently be required to stand walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms climb and balance stoop squat kneel twist and crawl.
- Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. Environment may include areas that have less adequate ventilation and may require use of respirator.
- Use of various personal protective equipment required.
