BSIP & BUS ROUTING CLERK REPORTS TO: Transportation Director Nature of Work The employee is responsible for assisting with the collection input and verification of data from the schools. Utilizing this data this employee creates and maintains the bus routes in the Bus Planner routing system. An employee in this position provides support and technical assistance to the Transportation DirectorThe job also involves the ability to effectively communicate with bus drivers school administrators parents and citizens on a regular basis regarding bus routing using all methods of communication. Work is evaluated by the Transportation Director or designee.
Education and Experience - High School Diploma
- Formal post-secondary computer training or comparable experience.
- Prior training and experience with Microsoft operatingsystems are necessary.
- Must possess a solid working knowledge of computers printers database managementand graphic software applications.
- Good organizational communication and analytical skills are essential. Knowledge of state and local statutes policies and procedures in school bustransportation isalso essential.
- Ability to obtain a North Carolina Commercial Drivers License with applicable endorsements to operate a school/activity bus when needed.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks - Creates bus runs/routes.
- Performs maintenance updates on bus routes.
- Ensures daily PowerSchool data import into Bus Planner.
- Compare routing data to GPS data from buses to determine effective and efficient operations are occurring on a regular basis.
- Coordinate new route development with Transportation Director or designee.
- Provide bus drivers schools and LEA departments with all route information regularly.
- Prepare routine reports as required by the Transportation Department and NC Department of Public Instruction.
- Verify student addresses with accurate locations through applications such as GIS and municipal tax data sources.
- Identify out of district students and coordinate necessary changes with appropriate principal and student services.
- Coordinate with other departments and schools to assign students to transportation for after school summer school McKinney-Vento EC and other groups as needed.
- Assists the Director in the production of the school bus run/route information in the formatnecessary to facilitate dissemination to the local media for publication to the general public.
- Performs otherduties as assigned.

Monthly Billing for reimbursements Route students as needed. Assist with Substitutes and ridership questions when needed
Knowledge Skills and Abilities - Thorough knowledge of state and local laws regulations and guidelines regarding busroutes stops and driver requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of traffic laws regulations and hazards and related safety precautions.
- General knowledge of the use of computers for record-keeping and report generation.
- Ability to establish and maintain accurate and organized records and compile reports.
- Ability toperform arithmetical calculations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials parents students and drivers.
Physical Requirements - Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking fingering grasping talking hearing and repetitive motion.
- Must possess the visual acuity and physical dexterity to work with computer equipment and related peripherals. Must pass alcohol and drug tests as per DOT FHWA and local board regulations as required.
