Under supervision at the health district day-to-day activities of the fellows include but are not limited to planning developing and conducting epidemiologic investigations surveillance outreach and interventions limited in scope and/or complexity to determine the causes of diseases and implementing methods of disease duties also include collecting analyzing and interpreting statistical data and preparing epidemiologic applied epidemiology experience is supplemented by competency based professional development trainings and comradery-building programming.

- Serves as a point of contact for various personnel regarding moderately complex epidemiologic issues.

Hired into the Rollins Epidemiology Fellows Program fellows serve as early-career MPH-level epidemiologists for a two-year term within one of Georgias 18 local health districts or at the Georgia Department of Public Health. This position is not located at Emory but rather at District 9-2 Southeast Waycross GA. There is a potential for hybrid schedule based on performance negotiated with the health district supervisor.

- Assists with the development of policies and procedures for new and existing disease control programs.

Example projects
1. The HIV/STI Provider Network Expansion: The fellow will lead a Provider Engagement & Partnership Project aimed at increasing the number of high volume clinical partners reporting into our surveillance system and offering PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis). The fellow will conduct a gap analysis to identify private clinics and urgent care centers in high-incidence zip codes that are not currently integrated into our referral network. They will develop a Provider Toolkit facilitate training sessions on trauma-informed STI screening and establish a formal feedback loop between community clinicians and the Health Department to improve the speed of Partner Services (DIS) interventions.
2. Analytic Evaluation & Informatics STI Early Warning & Surveillance Evaluation: The fellow will lead a Comprehensive Surveillance Evaluation and Geospatial Analysis of syphilis and HIV co-infection trends within the district. The fellow will evaluate the timeliness and completeness of current laboratory reporting to identify bottlenecks in the surveillance pipeline. Following the evaluation they will perform a Hotspot Analysis using GIS software to correlate incident cases with social vulnerability indices (SVI) such as housing instability or lack of transportation. The final deliverable will be a Predictive Risk Dashboard that helps the epidemiology team anticipate where the next cluster may emerge rather than simply reacting to past data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree in public health or Master of Science degree in public health epidemiology or related field from a CEPH accredited school/program of public health obtained within the last three years.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed and at times on short notice. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
