Job Summary

REPORTS TO: SuperintendentSUPERVISES: Technology Department EmployeesNATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB: The Director of Technology is a strategic leadership role responsible for the vision integration and management of all technological resources within the the context of a PK-12 school environment this individual ensures that technology serves as a seamless bridge between administrative efficiency and innovative student scope of this position covers everything from high-level strategic planning (E-Rate capital budgeting and Student Information Systems) to the boots-on-the-ground maintenance of network infrastructure. This position is the architect of a digital ecosystem that must be robust secure and compliant with both state and federal privacy : Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in a related fieldMinimum of 5 years of progressive experience in IT management preferably within a K-12 public school settingProven track record in managing large-scale budgets and multi-year life cycle planningDeep understanding of cloud ecosystems (Google Workspace for Education) network security SIS (e.g. PowerSchool Aspen) and 1:1 device deploymentExpert-level familiarity with FERPA COPPA and Massachusetts-specific data privacy laws (e.g. Student Data Privacy Alliance).PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Strategic Leadership & Digital LearningDevelop and implement a three-year District Technology Plan aligned with Massachusetts Digital Learning and Computer Science (DLCS) with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and other members of the leadership team to ensure technology tools enhance pedagogical goals rather than just replacing paper with screensCommunicate with leadership team regarding adding and removing student and/or staff access to tools or applicationsInfrastructure & OperationsOversee the maintenance and security of all district hardware including servers switches wireless access points and end-user devicesDevelop and maintain a comprehensive asset management system to track the deployment location and condition of all district-owned devicesEstablish a sustainable hardware rotation cycle (e.g. Chromebooks staff laptops and interactive displays) to ensure equitable access to functioning technology and avoid budget cliffsOversee the management of the districts Student Information System (SIS) ensuring accurate state reporting to DESE (SIMS SCS EPIMS)Oversee the management of the help desk operations to ensure timely technical support for staff and studentsIdentify gaps where informal practices exist; lead the team in designing and documenting formal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to address the Privacy & CybersecurityServe as the districts primary officer for data privacy ensuring all third-party vendors sign the Massachusetts Student Data Privacy Agreement (DPA) as applicableImplement robust cybersecurity protocols including as appropriate: multi-factor authentication (MFA) regular backups and staff phishing simulationsBudgetary & Personnel ManagementPrepare and oversee the annual technology budget including the procurement of hardware and softwareMaximize the districts E-Rate funding and seek out technology-related grantsSupervise evaluate and provide training for the technology department staff (Network Administrator Technicians and Data Specialists)Performs other such duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent of SchoolsEMPLOYMENT TERMS:Full-time twelve-month work yearSalary to be negotiatedThe Billerica Public School System is an equal opportunity employer in compliance with Title IX Chapter 622 and Section 504.
