On behalf of our Tanzania based Client We Are Looking for a Competent and Experienced Category Manager.


POSITION IN THE ORGANISATION

Reports to / Title of Immediate Supervisor: Head of Category

Duty Station: Kampala Uganda

Function: Marketing

Job Purpose: The Category Manager is responsible for the development execution and management of the companys product categories including new product development (NPD) portfolio optimization and marketing strategies. The role ensures that all products within assigned categories meet business objectives align with brand strategy and deliver consumer value.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Category Strategy and Planning

  • Develop category strategies aligned with brand objectives and business goals.
  • Conduct market analysis competitor benchmarking and consumer trend tracking.
  • Identify growth opportunities within the category and recommend actionable strategies.
  • Forecast category performance including sales demand and profitability projections.
  • Monitor category KPIs and adjust strategies to optimize market share and revenue growth.

New Product Development (NPD)

  • Lead the ideation development and launch of new products within the category.
  • Collaborate with R&D packaging and marketing teams to ensure timely product development.
  • Manage the NPD pipeline ensuring alignment with brand strategy and consumer insights.
  • Conduct feasibility analysis including financial viability risk assessment and market potential evaluation.
  • Oversee post launch performance tracking and implement improvements based on market feedback and sales results.

Marketing and Promotional Planning

  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns for products within the category.
  • Ensure campaigns are aligned with brand positioning consumer insights and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials digital content and product communications.
  • Plan and manage promotional calendars including trade promotions activations and product launches.
  • Monitor campaign performance metrics and optimize strategies to improve ROI and market impact.

Analytics Reporting and Insights

  • Monitor product performance using sales data market share and consumer insights.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards to track category KPIs product performance and NPD success metrics.
  • Translate insights into recommendations for portfolio optimization and marketing strategy adjustments.
  • Present performance reviews and strategic insights to stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth product launches and lifecycle management.
  • Liaise with external agencies and partners to support product development and promotional activities.
  • Support internal alignment on category strategies and initiatives.

Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to product quality regulatory compliance and market acceptance.
  • Ensure all product communications are accurate and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support crisis management and rapid response initiatives related to products.

Quality Management

  • Ensure all category and product management activities comply with the companys Quality Management System (QMS) ISO standards and internal procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for category strategies NPD processes approvals and product performance.
  • Monitor product development and marketing processes to ensure consistency quality and compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits related to category management and NPD processes.

Compliance

  • Ensure regulatory compliance in execution of duties in the country.
  • Ensure Adherence to Movit Group and In Country Policies and Procedures.


Requirements

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in Marketing Business Administration Food Science or a related field from a recognized university.

Masters degree in Business Marketing or a related field is a plus.


Related Minimum Experience:

Minimum of 58 years experience in category management product marketing or NPD roles.

Proven experience in product portfolio management NPD and marketing strategy execution.
