Job Summary

This position is part of the Global Reinsurance Center of Excellence a team that has recently transitioned from focusing solely on reinsurance activities within the United States to progressively managing transactions across all of Manulife. This expansion aligns with our strategic goal to optimize our portfolio via reinsurance. The teams core responsibility is to deliver timely and accurate financial information relating to complex affiliate and external reinsurance treaties.

In this role you will lead the analysis of reinsurance treaties and legal entities. This includes conducting in-depth analyses of reinsurance outcomes presenting your findings and overseeing the review and implementation of new reinsurance treaties. You will ensure the consistent and accurate application of reinsurance calculations and accounting models throughout our Asian operations.

This employee will also be expected to manage and own special projects related to the implementation of new accounting standards operational initiatives or treaty agreements. These projects will involve interacting and working directly with Global Finance IT and Actuarial teams.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepare reinsurance settlements and analytical reporting for internal and external treaties multiple accounting bases (IFRS17 local STAT Tax and Bermuda STAT) for complex reinsurance treaties

  • Compile and review reinsurance related footnote disclosures and reinsurance related Annual Financial Statement schedules

  • Present reinsurance financial results to stakeholders on a quarterly basis

  • Define and evaluate new reinsurance treaty accounting models and calculation methodologies

  • Collaborate with global IT Actuarial Finance and Investments teams to manage changes in systems and processes due to new accounting standards operational initiatives or new treaty agreements to ensure timeliness and integrity of financial data necessary to calculate and record treaty activity

Required Qualifications:

  • Finance or Accounting degree and a minimum of 4 or more years post-graduate experience.

  • Ability to learn and apply a large amount of technical accounting material

  • Dedicated to continual process improvement with strong internal controls and ability to adapt well to change

  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Applications particularly Excel and PowerBI

  • Experience with and knowledge of Essbase

  • Knowledge of insurance industry and reinsurance

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Must be well-organized innovative and possess a high level of initiative.

  • Curiosity and a commitment to understand complex financial transactions is essential.

  • Excellent analytical research and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment

  • Comfortable working with senior levels of management and able to cope in a fast paced dynamic work environment

  • A team player who possesses a positive self-starter attitude and work ethic
