As a student AmeriCorps Success Coach you will serve as a mentor for students throughout their IE2/College Career and Vocational Programming experience. IE2 is an initiative designed to expose students as early as Kindergarten to college career and vocational concepts. OYC Miamis goal is to ensure that by 11th grade every high school participant has declared a post-high path and by the end of OYC Miamis program term (age 25) that there is a high probability of success ensuring that participants can sustain themselves and their families from an economic perspective. Year-round College and Career Readiness programming is provided to promising youth residing in marginalized communities with the goal of increasing their knowledge of college and career options providing jobs and internships improving financial literacy and promoting civic engagement.


Your role as a Success Coach will be there to inspire motivate and challenge students to succeed. Success Coaches will support college and career readiness student development and retention services while ensuring high quality learning in accordance with OYCs IE2 Programming.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitation of weekly College and Career Readiness/IE2 workshops (e.g. college and career exploration and exposure job readiness training financial literacy etc.). and providing mentoring to students as it relates to planning for their future

  • Facilitation of bi-weekly financial literacy lessons and activities (e.g. budgeting savings etc.) and providing mentoring to students in this area
  • Facilitation of daily academic support activities including 1:1 or small group homework assistance and/or literacy activities with students
  • For Full-Time Members: Facilitation of academic support/tutoring activities including 1:1 or small group assistance with assignments and class activities during the school day (10 AM 12 PM; Monday Thursday) under the guidance of an OYC Staff Member and school teacher. Priority is to offer support during core classes (e.g. English/Language Arts Math Science or Social Studies).
  • Assist students within assigned cohort to develop a career plan for each student and meet with assigned cohort weekly to monitor progress of career plan. Career plans will be documented in the students electronic file (i.e. within Neworg).
  • Meet with Program Coordinator bi-weekly to provide student progress and member performance. Student progress will be documented in a case note within the students electronic file (i.e. within Neworg).
  • Collaborate with daytime AmeriCorps members to provide updates on student progress in Financial Literacy Wellness and Employment knowledge
  • Prepare reports and compile data for all mentoring activities to be submitted to the On-Site Supervisor and AmeriCorps Program Director monthly (e.g. completion of student career plans and monthly case notes)
  • Assist with the collection of pre/post survey data for college and career financial literacy and civic engagement programming
  • Assist with student arrival and dismissal protocols to ensure on-site safety for all participants
  • Attend mandatory AmeriCorps monthly meetings
  • Complete all required professional development training (e.g. 40-hour DCF Child Care Personnel Training including completion of certification exams)
  • Attend mandatory National Days of Service (e.g. September 11th MLK Jr. Day)
  • Abide by all service site policies and procedures as well as adhere to all AmeriCorps policies per the AmeriCorps handbook

MEMBER STATUS:

Full-Time Achieving 1700 Hours

  • Service Time: 10am-7pm weekdays 9am-2pm weekends (members would serve within these timeframes not necessarily the entire duration).

Half-Time Achieving 1200 Hours

  • Service Time: 1pm-7pm weekdays 9am-2pm weekends (member would serve within these timeframes not necessarily the entire duration).
  • This does not include in-service obligations special events which a member will be notified in advance.
  • Member Type: Part-Time Achieving 900 Hours
  • Service Time: 3pm-7pm weekdays 9am-2pm weekends (members would serve within these timeframes not necessarily the entire duration).

  • Member Type: Reduced-Time Achieving 675 Hours

Requirements
  • At a minimum members must be high school graduates GED recipients working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service. Members must agree to obtain either a diploma or GED before using an education award.
  • Member must be 17 & order to serve as an AmeriCorps member
  • Member must pass a National Criminal History Background check- to include a drug screen background check includes FBI and State of Florida through Field print plus NSOPW National Sex Offender database () and the state of residence( if necessary).This is contingent on any member beginning their service year.
  • Member must be a citizen national or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  • Position and Orientation Training
  • Members will receive an orientation to include required member training: Disability Awareness & Etiquette Diversity Citizenship & Zero Tolerance.
  • Members will be provided access to First Aid/CPR training HIPAA Mental Health First Aid Active Shooter training & Disaster Preparedness training.
  • Orientation will also cover prohibited activities in detail review of contracts and other pertinent agency and site information.
