Job Description:
A Welder in an SMS (Steel Melting Shop) or with theSMS groupspecializes injoining cutting and repairing metal components (steel aluminum) for heavy machinery structural and plant maintenance. They operateMIG/MAG/Arc welding equipmentto fabricate repair and maintain often performing vertical and horizontal welding in industrial settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fabrication & Repair:Cut shape and join metal parts using MIG TIG MAG or Arc welding and plasma/torch cutting.
- Blueprint Interpretation:Read technical drawings blueprints and weld symbols to determine layout and specifications.
- Equipment Operation:Set up maintain and troubleshoot welding machines grinders and torches.
- Material Prep:Clean grind and prepare metal surfaces ensuring proper fit-up using jigs clamps and fixtures.
- Inspection:Test welded surfaces for flaws and ensure structural integrity.
- Safety Compliance:Adhere to strict safety standards wearing PPE and operating heavy machinery securely.
Requirements:
- Experience:Proven experience in structural welding specifically within a steel plant or heavy engineering environment.
- Certification:Specialized certifications (e.g. 6G) are often required for complex pipe or structural welding.
- Skills:Ability to work in tight spaces or high places physical stamina to lift heavy materials and attention to detail.
