Job Summary

SR. ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
GENERAL SUMMARY

The Sr. Association Executive Director serves as the chief staff officer for the Association and Foundation responsible for strategy partnerships revenue growth (grants and corporate sponsorships) program excellence operations and culture. This is a relationship-driven outward-facing role that grows ADSs impact across industry academia regulatory and provider communities while ensuring best-in-class governance and financial stewardship.
The Sr. Association ED serves as an ex officio advisor to the Institute for Dental Safety and Science to ensure alignment across education research translation and industry engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leadership and Management
  • Lead development and execution of the multi-year strategic plan aligned to mission growth and impact metrics.
  • Monitor changing conditions related to the industry to enable ADS to provide leadership in developing and communicating programs and resources.
  • Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with strategic partners.
  • Serve as a primary spokesperson; represent ADS at national meetings media opportunities and strategic forums.
  • Advise the ADS and Foundation Boards with providing clear reporting decision-ready recommendations and action plans regarding programs and projects of importance to the organization so the Boards may effectively carry out their responsibilities.
Fundraising and Grant Management
  • In coordination with the ADS Foundation develop and execute a comprehensive revenue strategy spanning grants corporate sponsorships institutional partnerships and philanthropic giving.
  • Lead grant proposal development and submission oversee the team in preparing and organizing grant submission materials and monitor grant execution.
  • Oversee deliverables for reporting requirements for grants and government contracts.
  • Finance Governance and Operations
  • Ensure fiscal integrity including annual budgets monthly financials audits grant compliance and legal obligations for 501(c)(6) and 501(c)(3).
  • Maintain policies and procedures aligned with nonprofit best practices and Etherio standards.
  • Manage association staff and consultants including contractual consultant agreements.
Education
  • Oversee and supports education strategy in coordination with education support staff.
  • Oversee and ensure effective professional development programs are consistent with the Association objectives including online live events and educational courseware.
Communication
  • Administer an effective internal and external public relations program that is responsive to the needs of the membership and the profession.
  • Oversee membership marketing member services and member benefits to enhance member and partner experiences.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree: advanced degree and/or Certified Association Executive (CAE) strongly preferred
  • Oral healthcare experience: 5 years or more
  • Association Management: 5 years or more highly preferred
  • Hands-on budget management skills including budget preparation analysis decision-making and reporting.
  • Marketing experience with keeping and attracting new members in non-profit organizations.
  • Fundraising and grant management skills and experience required.
  • Strong strategic planning skills including program development and project leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee recruit and collaborate with strategic partners.
  • Knowledge of continuing education provider recognition.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with web-based tools and technology.
  • Ability to maintain composure and remain calm under pressure with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent computer and database management skills; experience with website management association management systems and registration systems preferred

WORKPLACE LOCATION REQUIREMENTS
This position is fully Remote and will work with the core team based in the Atlanta area.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to travel at most 50% per year.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS
Requires flexibility in scheduling such as the ability to work evenings and weekends to meet client event or company needs.

The Association for Dental Safety (ADS) is a growing community of educators researchers clinicians consultants and industry representatives who advocate safe and infection-free delivery of oral health care. ADS focuses on education and other strategies to improve compliance with safe practices and on building a strong network of recognized infection control experts. ADS offers an extensive online collection of resources publications checklists and toolkits that help dental professionals deliver the safest dental visit possible. Plus online and live courses help advance the level of knowledge and skill for every member of the dental team.

Founded in 1984 as the Organization for Safety Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) and formally incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1985 the organization rebranded to the Association for Dental Safety (ADS) in 2024 to better reflect the associations purpose. Today ADS is comprised of three separate but linked organizations:
  • ADS (501(c)(6)) Membership and industry leadership
  • ADS Foundation (501(c)(3)) Education and philanthropy supporting the mission
  • ADS Institute for Dental Safety and Science (501(c) (3)) Advancing evidence-based recommendations and education at scale

  • Must be able to remain either in a stationary sitting position for extended periods (such as when working in the office) while also being able to stand and/or move for extended periods (such as when executing events onsite).
  • Need to lift carry push or drag boxes or equipment up to 30 lbs.
  • Frequently moves inside the office to access filing cabinets office machinery etc.
  • Need to adapt and function in various physical settings (for example conference centers indoor and outdoor spaces).
  • Occasionally required to position self in a stooping kneeling or crouching manner.
  • Frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Frequently uses computers and other electronic equipment.
