Job Summary

Job Title: Building Maintenance Locksmith

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Dept./School: Maintenance

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Pay Grade: Auxiliary 6/260 days

Date Revised: 02/19/2025

Primary Purpose:

To maintain the security measures of the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma/ GED

Valid Texas Drivers License

Minimum Experience:

Experience as a locksmith and in architectural hardware

Experience in security alarm system installation and troubleshooting

5 years experience preferred

Major Responsibilities

  1. Maintain key loan records and key control system:
    1. Transfer key records to computer
    2. Duplicate issue and receive keys for entire school district during school year.

  1. Maintain removable core/priority keyway system:
    1. Rekey of building as budgeted money is available and necessary due to loss or theft of keys. (This process requires knowledge of removable core systems.)
    2. Coordinate bitting list with hardware manufacturing company. (This requires an updated bitting list of and new addition of rekeying do to lost or theft of keys.)
    3. Key identification is marked on blue prints of each building to assist in any future rekeying.

  1. Maintain all finish hardware:
    1. Repair and install
    2. Doors
    3. Ordering metal or wood doors for every new construction projects
    4. Ordering new doors by blueprints specifications
    5. Maintain the proper fit of doors which will includes cutting doors down to size and re-mortise of hinges
    6. Installing window kits in doors when requested
    7. Shimming doors when needed
    8. Install proper door equipment

  1. Frames
    1. Ordering either KD or Metal frames for new construction projects
    2. Order frames per blueprint specifications
    3. Install door frames with proper equipment

  1. Door Closers
    1. Install new door closer properly
    2. Properly adjust old door closerfor safety of the children
  2. Key Clerk
    1. Assist the Districts key clerk with
    2. Cutting keys
    3. Tracking down lost keys
    4. Keying locks when the system has an error to ensure distribution of the correct key is giving

  1. Other:
  1. Regular attendance.
  2. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Key cutting machines Code Max Speed Ex manual key cutter Automate cutter Key trail computer software Code source software HPC depth & spacing software setting up bidding sheets saws drills hammer drills ladders and other hand tools.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands: Reading maintain emotional control under stress and demanding situations.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Strenuous walking standing bending and/or climbing stairs or ladders; frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds; work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposed to dust dirt and paint fumes; work under buildings and or work on top of roofs work on elevated platforms such as scaffolding and or bucket trucks; must be able to work as a team member and at times work alone.
