Position Summary
The Upper School Science Department seeks a skillful dynamic and student-centered Chemistry teacher. Preference will be given to candidates capable of contributing to the Departments expanding offerings in Engineering and/or Computer Science.
This is an exciting time to join the DCDS Science Department as two recent additions allow faculty to provide dynamic and unique learning experiences to our students:
The Studios three spaces: the XR Studio featuring the same technology as The Las Vegas Sphere; The Pod a podcast/vodcast studio; and The Lab a virtual reality lab allow for unique and transformative learning experiences that go beyond the lab.
DCDS recently became the only school in Michigan (and 13th worldwide) to offer Stan-X courses and partner with Stanford University bolstering our outstanding science-research program by adding a genetic engineering component.
We have added new courses in both Engineering Computer Science and Robotics including Engineer Your World VEX Robotics Machine Learning and Data Mining.
Primary Responsibilities
Teach Chemistry giving students a rich and dynamic experience with the concepts and laboratory techniques in the field.
Teach another subject possibly Engineering and/or Computer Science courses as needed.
Establish an engaging student-centered and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and active engagement. We are a school that believes deeply in Mind Brain and Education science (MBE) practices annually supports faculty professional development in this area and is a partner school with the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (CTTL).
Maintain a regular system of monitoring assessment record-keeping and reporting of student progress.
Contribute to the development and coordination of the Departments curriculum and laboratory space.
Serve an advisor to a small group of students. Advisors communicate and consult with parents over all aspects of their childrens education academic social and emotional

Candidates are expected to participate meaningfully to the DCDS community by contributing to the student experience by leading a club and/or coaching.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree. Advanced degree preferred.
A genuine passion for mentoring teens and embracing the challenges and joys associated with that work is essential.
A growth mindset and a desire to continue growing as a professional learner.
