Position Summary
The teacher serves as a director of learning and a steward of the classroom community. This position requires strong skills in planning instruction assessment collaboration and professionalism. The successful candidate demonstrates deep content knowledge responsiveness to students needs and a commitment to creating a safe inclusive and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Preparation
Develop lesson plans aligned to MVSU curriculum Vermont Standards and Common Core State Standards.
Demonstrate strong content knowledge and the ability to connect instruction to students backgrounds interests and developmental levels.
Use research-based instructional strategies resources and models.
Design and implement assessments aligned with learning outcomes; use data to guide instruction.
Integrate technology meaningfully to enhance teaching and learning.
Classroom Environment
Foster a respectful supportive and student-centered learning community.
Create a safe environment where students feel comfortable taking academic risks.
Build a culture of learning that encourages curiosity ownership and high expectations.
Instruction
Communicate clear learning expectations and provide accessible instruction for all learners.
Engage students in rigorous meaningful learning experiences using a variety of instructional approaches.
Use questioning discussion and differentiated strategies to support diverse learners.
Incorporate whole-group small-group and individualized instruction.
Use ongoing assessment including opportunities for student self-assessment to inform instruction.
Professional Responsibilities
Engage in continuous professional learning aligned with research standards and the MVSU Strategic Plan.
Reflect on teaching practice to support continuous improvement.
Collaborate effectively with colleagues families and support personnel.
Maintain open communication with families via conferences newsletters and other methods.
Support implementation of student IEPs/504 plans and attend related meetings as needed.
Provide supervision and guidance to paraeducators.
Maintain accurate records uphold strong work habits and contribute positively to the school community.
Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree required; at least 1 year of relevant experience in an educational setting preferred.
Strong understanding of child development classroom operations and effective teaching practices.
Demonstrated proficiency in reading writing math and the academic content area taught.
Basic computer literacy; proficiency with Google Workspace required.
Strong communication interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to physically assist students as needed and respond appropriately to medical or behavioral situations.
