Job Summary
- Plan and construct layout of tools and dies from Engineering Tool Design and/or Methods documents
- Review Methods documents to ensure producibility of tool or die and provide estimates of labor hours for construction as required
- Determine and order the raw materials required to build tool or die
- Assemble tools and dies using and interpreting a variety of precision measurement equipment to ensure compliance with Engineering specifications
- Troubleshoot and coordinate with Engineering Tool Design Production and/or Methods to resolve problems pertaining to the successful construction of a tool or die design
Qualifications :
- Typically 7 years conventional machining sheet metal fabrication or related experience which must include 5 years experience in tool and die construction
- Ability to read and interpret Engineering Methods and Tool Design documents
- Ability to use and interpret a variety of precision measurement instruments
- Ability to set-up and operate various shop machines for example mills lathes drill presses surface grinders table routers power hand tools and heat treat oven
- Mechanical skills
- Basic knowledge of safety requirements for tool and die construction
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of individuals and departments
- Basic knowledge of trigonometry geometry and algebra
- Working knowledge of tool and die construction and required machinery equipment and raw materials
