About the Opportunity

Our client a well-established and growing organization in the construction materials and contracting industry is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support its California operations.

This is a high-impact hands-on role supporting a unionized workforce in a fast-paced operational environment. You will play a key role in driving employee engagement ensuring compliance with California employment law and supporting business expansion initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

HR Operations & Employee Relations

  • Support day-to-day HR functions including employee files reviews surveys and compensation administration

  • Provide guidance to employees and supervisors on policies benefits and employee relations matters

  • Investigate workplace concerns while maintaining strict confidentiality

California Compliance & Labor Relations

  • Ensure compliance with federal state and local employment laws

  • Support reporting requirements (EEO-1 VETS and related filings)

  • Partner with leadership in a unionized environment supporting collective bargaining agreement administration

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting including postings interviews screenings onboarding and exit interviews

  • Support workforce planning and organizational development initiatives

HR Systems & Process Improvement

  • Utilize HRIS and ERP systems to maintain data accuracy

  • Contribute to HR process improvements and operational efficiency

  • Assist with acquisition integration and expansion efforts

Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent HR experience

  • 5 years of Human Resources experience

  • Experience within construction or construction materials environments

  • Strong knowledge of California employment laws and compliance regulations

  • Experience supporting unionized workforces and collective bargaining agreements

  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in HR Business or related field

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP PHR SHRM-SCP SPHR or California-specific certification)

  • Experience with HRIS/ERP systems

  • Experience supporting acquisitions or organizational growth initiatives
