Job Summary

Job Title: High School College and Career Advisor

Reports to: Principal

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: Instructional 3 205 days

Date Revised: 7/18/19

Primary Purpose:

Under the direction of the Campus Principal and the Director of Social & Emotional Services and in conjunction with Middle School College & Career Advisors plan and provide a proactive developmental guidance program to educate students and parents on postsecondary options encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development and prepare for successful transition into post-secondary education and training.

Qualifications:

Educations/Certification:

Masters degree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate OR counseling certificate OR experience in college admissions/financial aid/college and career guidance

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of counseling procedures student appraisal career and technology and career development

Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Ability to build relationships with teachers administrators counselors and other staff

Knowledge of college and career preparation programs

Ability to manage budget and personnel


Experience:

Three years of experience in college admissions college & career advising or high school counseling (preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Program Management:

  1. Supplement the efforts of the counseling staff teachers and administration in providing opportunities and information needed by students to assure their success after graduation.
  2. Promote WFISD programs to students parents administrators counselors teachers and the community.
  3. Plan college and career programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
  4. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the college and career program and make changes based on findings.
  5. Make presentations to parents.
  6. Participate in the coordination of special programs such as Senior Send-Off Youth Leadership Wichita Falls etc.
  7. Provide feedback on the development and delivery of college and career readiness programs that incorporate district goals and support student achievement.
  8. Assist students in preparing for a successful life after high school through career exploration and post-secondary education information.
  9. Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop career awareness and post-secondary plans.
  10. Provide group and individual career advising as needed.
  11. Assist students and parents with college application process.
  12. Assist students and parents with financial aid process.
  13. Communicate with parents and students regarding college application and financial aid processes.
  14. Participate in the district-wide college night.
  15. Monitor enrollment in dual credit courses to facilitate scheduling decisions.

Consultation:

  1. Help students and others use special programs and services.
  2. Develop relationships with other guidance and counseling staff.
  3. Collaborate with the other College & Career Advisors.
  4. Coordinate dual/concurrent enrollment for the campus.
  5. Develop and maintain relationships with MSU and Vernon admissions and financial aid staff.

Assessment:

  1. Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately.
  2. Schedule and coordinate the administration of the ASVAB test.

Administration:

  1. Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and board policy in the college and career area.
  2. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  3. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  4. Communicate effectively with colleagues students and parents.

Professional:

  1. Model behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
  2. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  3. Attend professional workshops and staff development opportunities.
  4. Attend district PLCs department and professional develop meetings as required.
  5. Regular attendance.

Other Duties as Assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise any assigned student aides and clerical employees.

Provide input to campus principal regarding evaluations of clerical employees.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain control under stress. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Frequent districtwide travel.
