About the Role:
We are seeking a senior-level Mainframe Database Administrator with strong expertise in IMS (z/OS) and Db2 for z/OS. This role supports enterprise mainframe environments by designing administering optimizing and maintaining highly available and high-performing databases.
The DBA will collaborate closely with development teams analysts and business users to ensure database integrity performance scalability and compliance with enterprise standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Mainframe Database Administration
- Administer and support IMS (z/OS) and Db2 for z/OS databases.
- Coordinate physical database changes including coding testing and implementation.
- Establish and manage physical database parameters (memory allocation access methods storage optimization).
- Create and maintain production databases and database objects.
- Monitor database performance using system utilities and tools.
Database Design & Performance
- Design and maintain logical and physical database structures.
- Analyze transaction rates access paths and volume metrics to optimize performance.
- Perform database performance tuning and capacity planning.
- Calculate and configure optimal database parameter settings.
Security & Access Management
- Define and enforce user access controls (insert update delete retrieve).
- Specify and manage database-level security policies.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise data governance standards.
Collaboration & Support
- Work with development and business teams to gather data access requirements.
- Review and refine application programs for database efficiency.
- Assess impact of database changes across systems and applications.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to programmers and analysts.
- Train users and support troubleshooting activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 10 years of hands-on experience with:
- IMS for z/OS
- Db2 for z/OS
- Mainframe database administration
- Experience designing logical and physical database models.
- Proven performance tuning and database optimization experience.
- Experience managing database utilities and monitoring tools.
- Strong understanding of access controls and database security.
- Experience collaborating with development teams in enterprise environments.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in insurance or financial services environments.
- Experience supporting high-volume mission-critical mainframe systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment in Hartford CT.
